2023 NFL Combine Thread

Agreed. We need two real OTs, and Brown is a backup or released. Hopefully one OT is a FA and one is a draft choice.
Trent Mount Brown will be 30 soon and he's far from done he wasn't all our problems on Offense last year. Of course you wouldn't know it from the consensus around here People need to cut him some slack.

Trent Brown was not good last year. Why do we cut him some slack? It is a performance business - that is why he is paid $10M+ per year - to preform. If he does not preform, he can find another job like we all do. Since he was not all of our problems, we should ignore his performance and have the same problems in 2023?

What he's making is peanuts for a Tackle of his caliber I mean the man was previously Coached by Matt Patricia. Yeah I would Really take my job seriously.

5 games, 12 rec, 28 targets, 144 yards, 2 TD in 22 ( i know he was injured after the firstr 5 games)
in 21: 73 rec, 692 yards, 5 TD in 13 games

"He needs to keep filling out his extremely long frame, as he plays more like a big receiver than a tight end. His hands are subpar and he’s not strong enough to outwork grabby coverage or win contested catches right now. A team could view him as a Day 3 pick and stash him on the practice squad while he continues to develop."

Decent picks on the practice squad tend to get poached at some point.

don't know him tbh

Trent Brown makes $12M a year because that is the most his agent could find for him. Trent flamed out with the Raiders, and the Pats resurrected his career only to have Trent fall back last year. Was M Patricia the reason T Brown flamed out with the Raiders too? Please

We need OT and we are fairly good at finding OT talent. But my understanding is that after the top 3, there is a drop off, so why not trade down?
Welp, since this comment OTs started mysteriously rising :D
For the record I am always a fan of "trade down forever." I am not even being sarcastic. I love how "I will gladly give you two cheeseburgers tomorrow for a cheeseburger today" works, and I only get nervous when we finally spend all that draft capital.

As of now, these could be the top 14:
4 QB's: Stroud, Richardson, Levis, and hopefully Young (who may slide)
4 DL's: Anderson, Wilson, Murphy, and hopefully Carter (if he's not in jail)
3 CB's: Witherspoon, Gonzalez, Porter
3 OT's: P Johnson, Skoronski, B Jones

with these 3 at the door:
1 WR: Smith-Njigba
1 RB: Robinson
1 TE: Kincaid

Assuming the QB's and DL's all go by 13 or before, we're guaranteed a good player of need, with a couple to spare.
Porter’s 40 wasn’t slow but it wasn’t elite either. His unofficial times were 4.48 and 4.52. The faster run was officially changed to 4.46….good but not great, when multiple CBs ran sub-4.4. Porter ranked 15th among CBs in the 40. He also didn’t do any of the positional drills, apparently because he ability to backpedal and change direction do not stack up well when compared to some of the top guys, particularly Gonzalez. On the other hand, Banks tested at an elite level in the 40, 10 yd split, vert and broad jump. Some now believe that he has a chance to leapfrog Porter as the 3rd CB off of the board.

On the other hand, Quentin Johnson’s vert and broad jump were both elite. If he runs 4.5 or better at his pro day I don’t see him making it to 14.

His cap hit is 12M. That's not what he "makes". Furthermore, 5.25M of that is incentives tied to his weight. We don't know how much he didn't make last season from that, but we know that making ANY of that bonus changes the entire amount to LBTE for this year. Whatever he doesn't make (if any) will be a credit on next year's cap.

This idea that Brown "flamed out" with the Raiders isn't actually supported by facts. Brown had COVID for multiple games (7 weeks) in 2020. But why bother with actual facts when you don['t have to, right?

Listen I'm with the OT's, folks, but you might be able to use cash saved on Meyers, to upgrade at Slot with Njigba, and sign a OT. Also you a get a Comp. Pick since all I read is Meyers getting big bucks. Nice player, but if he goes I won't lose sleep. Njigba same kind of player. Who was a stud 2 years ago.
Slight trade back, get Njigba, and get back in the 1st for a OT if one is there still.

There aren't any LTs worth signing who could be expected to be our starter there next season. I don't trust Orlando Brown Jr with all that money and no veteran leadership on offense except for Andrews.

Trent Brown's a valuable piece and he'll be back next year.

i don't know about brown..he wasn't good last season...hope we can get two new OT, at least two OT who can seriuos compete with brown for the starting job

T. Brown wasn't good last year at left tackle. He was fine the previous year at right tackle. I hate the idea of keeping Brown at LT. But I'm OK with moving him back to RT. Of course I would be fine with getting a stud RT in the draft if one falls in our lap in the mid-2nd or later. But I'm far more concerned with LT & CB.

Yep; trade down at least once and target Oklahoma's Anton Harrison nearer the end of the round.

There seems to be 3 top CBs and 3 top LTs. After that I am reading there is a drop-off, and #14 or #15 might not be any better than #25 or #26. My understanding is that this draft is not top heavy but very deep. More picks might be a lot better than high picks.

UGA's Kelly Ringo has kept himself in the 1st-round conversation with his performance at the combine... He could be another target after a trade-down, like Anton Harrison...

Gotta admit I wasn't impressed with the athleticism of our new OL coach's top two proteges, Alex Forsyth & TJ Bass...Yuck.
