Unfortunately, the Pats picked up his fifth year option. He is guaranteed to be back next year at a big cap hit (one year, $10.4 million). Maybe they can get someone to trade for him while the Pats eat part of his salary. Like half or more.

The funny thing is I do not disagree about Herron/Onwenu. Just think with all the Tourette's-like shouting that the OC and staff are complete idiots, it's time to man up and direct that ire at Belichick. The buck stops with him, I would think.

Wynns pick up was because we don’t have better LT. He is in the middle of the pile of LTs in the league, as well he’s salary next year will be in the middle of the pile. Do we want and need better, yes of course, be we don’t have one.
We have TB who played great LT for us few years ago but after that he struggled and was more on IR then on field, same this season as well.

Wynn has been up and down this year but prior to this season he's been above average. Top 15 run blocker, top 15-20 overall. 10M is peanuts for an above average tackle at either spot. That's not my opinion, it's a fact.

And with respect that's what's wrong with a lot of arguments here. Opinion passed off as fact. In what world is 10M a lot even for an average tackle? That's incredibly cheap.

Also NFL players miss games. It's not fun or fair but few players are playing every game.

I don't understand why you think the coach is the issue? Once they got players healthy (see Brown at RT) and decided to slot Karras in at LG for Onwenu they took off.

I think the stagnation you're referring to is more a result of some weird injury timing. They clearly felt in TC that their best combo was Wynn-Onwenu-Andrews-Mason-Brown, with Karras as the super sub. That was the lineup in week 1 (well, PLAY 1 at least), and then Brown got hurt. I think at the time they thought Brown would be back really soon, and so they figured why reshuffle the line, only to shuffle it back in a week. Unfortunately, Brown had some kind of set back and that didn't happen. Eventually, they moved Onwenu to RT and Karras to LG, and things solidified, so by the time Brown came back they just made the 1-to-1 swap back Brown for Onwenu. They've been riding that since, to mostly good effect.

A similar philosophy was at play in the Miami game. Wynn goes down, and rather than move Brown from the right to the left (where he may not have practiced all year), they just plugged Herron in for the rest of the game. Again, short term, you move as few people as possible where you think you can still field five professional OL. Herron wasn't really the problem in the Miami game, except for the very first play he was in where Miami loaded up that side and took advantage of the communication issues that were bound to occur.

Now, the big question will be: If Wynn is out this week, can you afford to maintain this philosophy? They may think that Wynn would be back for a divisional round, but if they don't win this week that doesn't matter at all. I would imagine they would move Brown to LT and Onwenu to RT, because this is do or die, but ultimately we'll see on Saturday. IF Wynn is out, that is, which looks more likely than not at this point.

I asked if coaching was the issue, I don't think anything because I can't really tell. I really don't have much of an understanding of position coaches and how you can judge their work - that's outside of my knowledge. I asked because I hadn't seen it brought up much and was looking for a take on that component and just kind of go from there.

Also was asking because maybe someone would have insight that could give a perspective on why we've seen rotations that don't really make sense to us at home. I don't know. I like asking questions when I don't know stuff.
