Cam Released

Cam says he's fine being a backup.

Belichick, McCarthy, Rivera, so far...all coaching teams that make sense for a willing veteran backup quarterback...none want to touch Cam with a 10-ft pole. How weird...you'd think signing an incredible, no-ego, high-character leader would be an easy call.

At what point will people just acknowledge the charade is over? Cam has always been a phony who has been constantly praised for ridiculous reasons by this forum.

Read between the lines here. Of course the Patriots would prefer to have someone of his skill level as the backup quarterback. Even if Cam's style is different, that was a known when they signed him twice. He is still much better overall than Hoyer. It would be a no-brainer to keep Cam as backup if he weren't a head case who will divide the locker room.
Or maybe he just can’t throw the football at an NFL level anymore.

Only thing I wonder is why wasn't cam given the opportunity to be a backup.

Originally I thought it was a pride thing. But now word is he was never given the option. Cam would be a better backup than hoyer and stidham

BB says it wasn't because of his vaccination status.

What he didn't say was it was because of the NFL's policy for unvaccinated players.

I firmly believe this.

In my perfect world Cam would have stayed as the backup. He would have made the best backup for Mac and if Mac got hurt he could have led the team. I think Cam's ego got in the way. Wish he came to reality about his career and stuck with a good organization and been happy with his place in time for the Patriots. He's much better than Hoyer or Stidam ever would be.

Even in his prime, Cam was never good with reads or with throwing receivers open. In literally every one of those clips he is holding onto the ball too long. His athleticism and legs and a cannon for an arm, bailed him out for the most part. Not anymore.

THIS

You can't risk 10 days of not having your starting QB because he came in close contact with a team employee who later test positive for COVID. BB would never say this because of the legal liability associated with it, but it had to have been a factor.

Availablity has always been one of BB top tenents.

(Do not take this post as cue to beign a vaccine debate, all we are saying is that the NFL policy is very different for the vaccinated versus the unvaccinated, and that difference, surely affected roster decisions around the legaue.)

Totally.

BBs presser about vaccinations and breakthrough cases that he took **** for being uninformed was a complete smokescreen.

Imagine if he said Cam was cut because of his unvax status?

NFLPA would surely take legal action.

It would be a **** storm.

Notice what he doesn't do during that play.

Pass.

I’m not sure that Cam is good enough to play in the NFL even as a backup anymore.

WEEI is now saying Cam had to go to Mac for help with plays and understanding the play book. Cam would not have made a good backup here. He seems like a really cool guy, and is well liked, just not the type of qb that meshes well with our system.

Then why the **** did the team re-sign him? Makes zero sense.

That can't be true or if so then either Mac is fekcing ready to play or Cam just worse than we thought

Not saying it always pays off. But the man stuck to his guns, science is starting to back his decision. Politics get in the way. You have to respect that he is sticking to his personal values.
Charles Manson stuck to his personal values, should we respect that too?

yup, hard to believe anyone with natural immunity would run out and get the jab. I guess many just live by what others tell them to do or should do.
Get over yourself. Unless you're living off the grid and providing for yourself in the wild, you're living by other people's rules. He's just being an ass for taking the benefits of being a part of society yet not following the rules.

How do you know Cam hasn't had adverse reactions to previous vaccines in the past? You really don't know anything about the guy or his risk profile. So you can say he's being selfish, but I'm not out here to judge people on their personal medical decisions.
If he wanted to show some leadership he could tell us what his reasoning is in one of those fabulous IG posts, instead of hiding behind privacy. It's not like he's publicity shy.

No trying to derail the thread anymore away from football, we can agree to disagree.

Not questioning you, but who on WEEI and how would they possibly know that? Sounds like BS to me.

Belichick did not offer Cam the backup job.

There is a very valid argument for resigning him.

When they signed him it was for backup money and they stated through the media they were still looking for a starter. Turns out they found him in the draft.
Who ever that new starter was going to be there was a chance at a placeholder, transition guy to play until the new guy was ready.
Newton knew the basics of the offense because he was here last year.
By making him the transition guy, you don’t have to work with him much at all in camp and can devote 100% coaching attention to the new guy.
We saw reports that McDaniels pretty much never left Macs side. He would work with Mac and a few receivers alone, etc.

If we brought in a different stop gap guy then they would have had to been coached up in the system.
Once Mac was ready, Newton’s purpose was no more.

There was no guaranty that Jones or any of the top tier QB prospects were going be available at 15 or if Jones would be ready to play Game 1.

Which makes it worse, if that were the case.

Here’s our starter if we can’t find anyone in the draft. He sucks so bad he doesn’t even know the playbook and can’t even serve as a backup because he doesn’t fit the system. Let’s give him all the first team reps too, all offseason, even though, again, he isn’t even adequate as a backup.

There were a bunch of potential free agent QBs.

No idea if Jacksonville would have ever made that trade to us, but Minshew would have been nice.
