Should the League Adopt the UFL Rule and Make a 60yd+ FG worth 4 points?

No. I don't want to see a chump team win 13 games on circus kicks.

No. Imagine the hardon Pittsburgh and dallas would get over this , no thank you!!

sounds like a cool idea... back in the 80's. when 50 yard kicks were rare as hens teeth... not so much now...

there is elegance in the simplicity of the nfl scoring system... no real reason to **** it up now

Instead, the team should spin a wheel of fortune type dial to determine how many points. -7 through 14. You spin the dial you kick the ball.

Ehhhhh I'm 30% intrigued, based on "they changed everything else, might as well change that too." I'm 70% against based on "JUST STOP CHANGING SH*T UNTIL I KNOW THE RULES AGAIN!!!"

I still dont understand new kickoffs. Well, I guess I do. They're safer for players and boring for fans. F*** this arena, the gladiators don't even die anymore, right? But seriously folks. I guess ya gotta do it, but I miss real playoffs. Just stop it. All of it. Play football as I learned it. I'm still salty about the legalization of the forward pass.

John Dempseys 63 yard FG was kicked at Tulane Stadium on grass.
It was actually Tom Dempsey but you're not alone in calling him John

While it was a great bit of NFL record history while it lasted, I always kindof wondered what would happen if you let other kickers use shoe that had a hard flat surface on the front rather than a pointed cleat too

Having two footballs and QBs on the field at the same time would liven things up too!

I think hockey should lead the way with two pucks on the ice at the same time.

It would indeed be interesting to see what the modern NFL would do. I have a suspicion that a modern day Tom Dempsey wouldn’t merely have a shoe with a flat surface. Someone would probably create a shock absorbent, titanium faced, spring loaded, platinum lined, carbon graphite shoe for him to use.

Thats right.

Other straight-on kickers (who weren't born with half a foot like Dempsey) used a kicking shoe with squared-off sole at the toe.

Dempsey cashed in on his record-setter doing publicity appearances. I saw him at a local car dealership where he drop-kicked balls through a makeshift goal post.

I also don't mind it. The strategy and potential for late game heroics could be even better. You may even see more 2pt conversions, which the NFL loves for the drama.

I agree. It would turn 2 score games into potential one score games, while at the same time making the team taking it risk giving their opponent the opportunity for great field position.

There were 12 successful FG's of 60 or more yards last season in NFL games, compared to four or five in prior years. So, while rare, they're occurring more often.
I'm not sure how I feel about it.
The change would seem to encourage Dome teams to go after kickers with big legs. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it has sort of a clown golf feel to it.
I don't like the idea that it could encourage teams to take losses or penalties late in games to change their field position, which could lead the defense to retaliate by taking a penalty to give the yards back.
Doesn't feel right. But it's probably worth talking about.

It's already too easy to score with the kickoff rules and these guys booting 60 yarders for 3, you get a couple of first downs now and it's points.

It's also too dependant on weather and indoors/outdoors to bring in 4 point FGs in Denver anyone can kick 60+ yarder.

A very dumb idea for the reasons outlined. It defeats the very concept of the game, moving the ball forward, and creates absurd scenarios.

If they really wanted to do something like this, it would need to be something like:

-Move the ball 30 yards back from the LOS as a one time 4 point attempt.

Or something along those lines.
