Very surprised and disappointed. The kid needs time on the bench to learn the pro game.

Rookie QBs are rookie QBs. Some can handle playing year one, and even week one, while others can't. None are ever really ready to face the best NFL teams, and it's a fairly rare thing to find a rookie QB who's better than league average.

But Cam Newton sucks.



I thought BB would keep the kid under wraps until after the Tampa game, in order to let the kid learn while avoiding the buzz saw potential of that game.

But Cam Newton sucks.



The Patriots have what should be an excellent offensive line, quality are 3dRB, and, when healthy, 2 TEs who can help when Jones is getting pressured. They also have what should be at least a solid group of running backs. They should have brought in a WR1, and at least one was available on the cheap, but the rest of the offense is conducive to protecting a young QB.

And Cam Newton sucks.

Agreed.. Mac will probably have his ups and downs this year and that is to be expected. Given that he seems incredibly calm, makes mostly good decisions and learns very quickly. If he does have a bad day or patch he seems to bounce back very quickly. Even as a rookie he seems to make things look easy and the offense looks calmer when he is in there.

How many QB's have hosted Jeopardy AND won the Super Bowl?! It is an unworldly accomplishment that all NFL quarterbacks should strive for.

So I would had thought Jones would be on the bench as a back-up this season and at least into 2023 before being promoted to starter.

BB is losing it in his later years.

The Matt Patricia era can't get here soon enough.

Both Manning brothers and Ben Rothlesberger started their rookie years and won two Super Bowls each. It works both ways.

I forgot that Manning sucked, Roethlisberger sucked, Russel Wilson sucked, Dak Prescott sucked.

Except Mahomes, Jones has been drafted earlier than those guys. And except Brees who had your pal Flutie, all those teams had legit starters. The Patriots didn’t.

According to Bedard, the Patriots did not offer Newton the option of staying on as the backup.

I would have preferred he be our back up over Hoyer.

Look, I think it is as simple as the kid has impressed in camp and practice and is far ahead of where they imagined he would be. He's ready to play NOW or bill wouldn't play him. Why sit the kid if he's ready to go out there and perform?

Patriots cut Cam Newton because how is he going to accept being a backup? He did look somewhat better in the preseason this year. But not that much better. Last game he was throwing balls into the dirt. Still not making any changes at line of scrimmage.

Cam is a really popular guy, although he's a great teammate they may not have wanted him around in case Mac had a rough patch or two.

i understand people talking bout the vax as it relates directly to Cam, but it’s ridiculous how so many scientists come out to debate studies and offer their expert-opinions in so many threads. Pretty content not having that cringe, “£oOk @T m€“, king of the check-down bounce pass QB on this team.

I'm very glad Mac is starting but c'mon man. Cam was by all accounts an exemplary teammate who worked hard and when interviewed always put the team first. He wasn't good enough but the look at me thing is just crap. Also one opposition db says something once in practice and all of a sudden that's what he is. He was a poor passer with crap mechanics but he was decent in a lot of ways and deserves some respect.
