Zolak despises Cam. Doesnt even try to hide it. Pail Perillo is about the same. Its going to be interesting how the locker room reacts to the cam verdict. If they love field goals hes their guy

I can see Jones watching the first 4 or 5 guys because he is not ready at this time.

but newton will eventually play his way to the bench and then Jones will have to rescue the season!

You guys vastly overrate Winston.
Can I just say this? I am thrilled that the Saints picked him as their starter. Not that I think Hill is a starter by any means but he is a competitive devil. Winston is just a TO machine and has very little heart IMO. I am very much looking forward to our week 3 game. That being said, I respect the heck out of Sean Payton and it won't be a cake walk by any means especially if Cam is our starter but I love our chances to win with Winston in there.

At this point, if the starter is Cam, I'll accept it VERY grudgingly. In fact, I might not accept it at all. In Bill I trust for football, but not epidemiology (although he has done well on the latter to date. the Cam situation is a test of his ability to cope with our present reality.)

Cam gets fully vaxed, and my mind changes. That's 1 J&J shot, or 2 phizer/moderna shots, and you never have to hear about it from me again.

He's exposing his team to multiple negative outcomes.

It would be great if Bill sent Hoyer to the podium, announcing him as the starter, then Brian gets the "flu" right before kickoff and is inactive.
The “flu” haha. The flu is soo 2019 man

You didn’t hear, the flu all but died last year.
According to the CDC, we only had 2038 reported cases of the flu in US last year. Down from 38 million in 2019.

Bill might want to go with another medical issue, because covid clearly all but eliminated the flu........

Bill is still bound and determined to show the league that Newton is still that MVP from a few years ago and that everyone whiffed while he brilliantly pulled him off the scrap heap for a song….Now as we know Newton sucked horribly last year…..some of the worst QB play in the history of the league.
But now he has had a full TC and workouts under his belt….has shown some good stuff this year in TC and preseason…albeit against teams that he has practiced with all week and against 2nd stringers at times…..But Bill will go with him to start first several games because he is the veteran and he still loves to prove everyone else wrong…..but the pressure will build by about week 6 at the latest….if Cam is sucking and Mac is just sitting there….could cut the Pressure with a knife!!!….should be interesting situation to follow!!!! GO PATS!

Great post

Great post

also according to the CDC, the PCR test being administered for the past 18 months couldn’t tell the difference between the flu and Covid-19. So I don’t know what to believe these days. Just more information that makes you scratch your head and ask “what the hell?”

It will be Newton but he'll be on a short leash with Jones waiting. Last year only reason why Newton didn't get benched is he was still the better option than Hoyer (proven in the Chiefs game) and Stidham

Belichick Quotes

7/31- " Cam is the starter".

8/14- " Cam is the starter".

8/21- "Cam is the starter".

8/26- "I don’t really have a timetable for that”.

Bill is mind f___ing both players. I think it's great.

I think tonight's preseason game decides it.

Let's be honest. Belichick has completely screwed up the team's QB situation over the past two/three years. His drafting decisions have been mediocre at best over that time, probably before. His career overall arguably makes him the GOAT: fine. But recently, he's been a good coach, no longer a great one, and a lousy GM. Given this decline, I expect him to make a lousy choice here. That choice is starting a used-up waste-of-space, Cam Newton.

Same. I wonder if BB has a legit concern that Jones’ body wouldn’t last 17 games as a rookie.
OT-ish - maybe you're being figurative, but is that rest-every-player-for-one-game rule now in effect? I haven't been paying close attention.

It is commonly known BB has limited confidence in rookies. Mac definitely has had convincing pre season games and trainings but BB might not treat it like a serious test and proof he is ready for a real game under pressure. The real chance is on the field during game, I mean the real game. IMO that chance will appear only when Cam makes some silly decisions and loses game or two. It is not like I don't like Cam. However I do not believe in his abilities of reading game and being a good passer.
Bottom line is: Cam will be a starter but it is Mac who finishes that season as our franchise QB.

It’s a bit surprising to say « arguably ».

BB is the best coach of alltime. There is no equal. He’s won MORE in the free agency / rich player era than coaches who had basically ownership over the players (and thus would dominate if they hit on key pieces).

I am curious : to all posters who think BB is merely a coattails rider of Brady - what all time coaches DIDN’T have either excellent QB play or a roster so stacked it could win with an avg QB.

Who were the QBs for the following greats ?
Lambeau
Noll
Walsh
Shula
Lombardi

Gibbs won with several QBs. His teams were SUPER stacked. Amazing talent on those rosters.

I don’t know. The hysteria surrounding Brady’s departure and the subsequent retooling (which is not even in year 2 yet) is gaining steam.
« Belichick has completely screwed up the team’s QB situation »…. He signed a former MVP in year one (which was NOT a good year) and he drafted a Heisman finalist coming off a historic Championship in year two. Is that completely screwed up ? It might not work. Jones might not pan out. But I’d not say BB has completely screwed it up at QB. Unless, of course, any move that excludes the greatest QB ever to return is a « screw up »…

It's pretty much a given that Cam starts. The job is his until he loses it.

I think that tonight we'll see BB throw in Mac Jones suddenly. The good old injury rep.

You are too good of a poster to try to rationally argue with the irrational.

I see some weird responses above about the flu(?) & some "downvoting."

My statement was and is that Newton's a selfish piece of crap, if there is no more to the story than that he just prefers to remain unvaccinated, with the proof that is now available. If there is more to the story and he is somehow not a candidate for vaccination, that he's not a selfish piece of crap but bad luck is bad luck. Boo hoo. I'd like to see the Pats in contention. Last year was one thing. Now we have vaccines.

You guys seem to want to talk about flu, in the general population. This must be some kind of rabbit hole into opinionland. I'm in the real world. COVID outbreaks that cause skipped games will result in forfeits this year, and Cam has proven last year that just getting COVID oneself is deleterious to one's game. He's also proven that at present, just effing up your testing regime can disrupt team activities.

I don't know if you're still playing make-believe about the disease underlying the NFL's decisions, but you don't get an alternative make-believe Lombardi if your QB f****s his team over.

Pity we're on the hook for some minimal amount for his year 2, but he's a liability. There is an FDA (non emergency) approved vaccine out there, and there will no doubt be 2 or 3 soon.

I can live with Mac and I can even live with Hoyer. I originally was only thinking in terms of who's starting. Come to think of it, I wouldn't roster anybody who keeps refusing vaccination, but that might represent legal issues. But I'd at least minimize team exposure to the risk at QB. I'm neutral about rolling the dice on a has-been coming back at game speed; I guess Bill & co. were the best judges of that. But letting the has-been roll the dice about his own ability to show up, on purpose?

F**** that, that's just vice-signaling.
