Shouldn’t we know who the starter is today by the amount of reps and who opens up vs Giants? Bills a different cat for sure. Most coaches have already named their starter, if not all of them.

But here we are last preseason game before the start of the season. You’d venture to guess that if Newton is the starter he would take the opening series and then sit, while the backups takes the rest? Thats pretty much traditional coaching, either start the series or don’t play him at all in final game. Or being the most unpredictable coach ever, BB starts Mac and then Cam doesnt play at all and Bill leaves us guessing some more?

also according to the CDC, the PCR test being administered for the past 18 months couldn’t tell the difference between the flu and Covid-19. So I don’t know what to believe these days. Just more information that makes you scratch your head and ask “what the hell?”
I believe you are referring to some Facebook Posts that took the CDC announcement out of context. The alert advises labs to switch to other COVID-19 testing methods and “encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.” The reason being, “Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season.”

It is not true that the old PCR test could not differentiate between COVID and flu. But it ONLY tested for COVID. A separate test was required to diagnose flu. The newly recommended multiplexed test “saves both time and resources” by simultaneously testing for COVID and flu. More details are at: NEW CDC Covid Test .

You are too good of a poster to try to rationally argue with the irrational.
It’s as if the general consensus has become « most great HCs had bare cupboards but still managed to win one SB and that is better than 6 rings » and « Brady moved to a team with ZeRO skill players on either side of the ball and dragged Tampa to an undefeated SB season ».

It’s a bit surprising to say « arguably ».

BB is the best coach of alltime. There is no equal. He’s won MORE in the free agency / rich player era than coaches who had basically ownership over the players (and thus would dominate if they hit on key pieces).

I am curious : to all posters who think BB is merely a coattails rider of Brady - what all time coaches DIDN’T have either excellent QB play or a roster so stacked it could win with an avg QB.

Who were the QBs for the following greats ?
Lambeau
Noll
Walsh
Shula
Lombardi

Gibbs won with several QBs. His teams were SUPER stacked. Amazing talent on those rosters.

I don’t know. The hysteria surrounding Brady’s departure and the subsequent retooling (which is not even in year 2 yet) is gaining steam.
« Belichick has completely screwed up the team’s QB situation »…. He signed a former MVP in year one (which was NOT a good year) and he drafted a Heisman finalist coming off a historic Championship in year two. Is that completely screwed up ? It might not work. Jones might not pan out. But I’d not say BB has completely screwed it up at QB. Unless, of course, any move that excludes the greatest QB ever to return is a « screw up »…
"The hysteria surrounding Brady’s departure". We parted ways with the best QB in the 100 years history of this game. And it sounds like it is usual business and nothing happened. There was nothing inevitable in that departure, and it is 100% on BB. It was not "in the best interest of the team". And it was personal.

Didn’t Newton already have Covid? If yes then why does he need the vax?
Just wondered. I do think Cam will start the year. I don’t like it but I’m not the coach. I’d be cautious with Jones also. Some hard nfl hits are bad on rookies

Can I just say this? I am thrilled that the Saints picked him as their starter. Not that I think Hill is a starter by any means but he is a competitive devil. Winston is just a TO machine and has very little heart IMO. I am very much looking forward to our week 3 game. That being said, I respect the heck out of Sean Payton and it won't be a cake walk by any means especially if Cam is our starter but I love our chances to win with Winston in there.
How are you measuring Winston heart?

It actually probably was in the best interest of the team.
Bringing Brady back in 2020 would have meant bringing back the team that finished 2019 miserably, minus subtractions and with no free agent additions of consequence.
The 2020 team would have been worse than the second half of 2019. Instead of 60 mill of cap room on 2021, which was used to rebuild the roster around the 23 year old QB of the future we would have had about 10 mill to build it around the 44 year old Brady, making 2021 much like 2020.
Keeping Brady would not have resulted in winning any more championships, not by any stretch.
Rebuilding the team moves it on to the next generation with a chance to win.
Could we have squeaked out a wild card and another one and done last year? Maybe, but a plan that makes that the best case isn’t what’s in the best interest of the franchise.

It IS business as usual. He was here for a tremendous amount of time and he was exceptional. It wasn’t 100% on BB. Do posters actually believe Brady wanted to stay SOOOO badly and BB pushed him out ?

He is an exceptional athlete. But Brady is gone and people are clearly obsessed with him. He’s an athlete who played on a team we root for. Yet posters act like he’s family or an ex BF ?

Choose to believe what you want. In most cases, there are two sides. BB decided to move on and retool. Brady chose to move to a team loaded with talent. It’s that simple.

Sure it would have. Doubtful they would have won it all last year but this year Pats are SB contenders without a doubt if Brady was here. I’d put my money on them winning it all.

As it is I believe BB has already won his last ring unless Mac turns out to be a really special QB.

No, with Brady here almost all of the additions wouldn’t be. They were signed with the cap money brady would have taken up last year and this year.
It would be pretty much still the same team we saw at the end of 2019.

I think Brady and the team would have found a way to make the numbers work, as they’ve done for years. Now they won’t sniff a Super Bowl and there’s an excellent chance they‘ll be watching Brady repeat on TV.

You think he would have taken $5,000,000?
He left over money. He would have required what Tampa gave him and from his exit meeting with Kraft it sounds like even that would have been enough.
Assuming the same 25 mill a year Tampa gave him that’s 50 mill of free agents you don’t get this year.
You can’t just say the players signed using the money not paid to Brady would be here too.
it was extend the Brady years with minor additions to the broken squad we had, or rebuild. Both couldn’t happen.

Last year proved Bill cannot win with anyone after all as the Brady critics always claimed.

That’s not to say Bill would have 0 rings without Brady. Bill wouldn’t win a thing with an ordinary QB. I think if you give Bill a really good QB he probably does wins a ring, like any good coach would. Reid is a good coach and he didn’t win a thing before a great QB fell into his team’s lap. Talent matters.

I doubt he left for money. Money is not a problem for his family and he’s taken below market rates here for years. They could have made it work if Bill really wanted it to.

He left over his contract. He required a void year. He went to Kraft and Kraft asked if there was anything they could do to keep him and he said no.

Hey I loved Brady as much as anyone but the truth is the truth.
IF Brady was willing to stay the money it would have taken would have prevented the rebuild at least until he was 45. Do you really rebuild around a 45 year old?

The Brady era was going to end sometime. Aside from the emotional part, when it did was the best for the long term success if the franchise. And best for Brady too.

Nah, no way in hell does BB "guarantee" starts for anyone.... not even Brady.
I tried to cover that in my comments in ( ). But I could see him saying something like, "The job is yours for as long as I say it is and I'm not going to pull you just because the media and fans who've never played a down of contact football say I should." Lot of wiggle room there.

It's lunacy to think it's that simple.
Some argue it’s lunacy to obsess about the Brady departure.

BB moved on from a QB who was good but not great in 2019. Brady moved on to a loaded team where he felt he could win. I do not believe NE wins last year with Brady as QB. The team would have been better than it was. But it wasn’t winning the SB.

BB moved on from TB in 2014. The day he drafted JG. The story is a bit more complicated if one wants to really understand it. And again it was personal. Not business. AT ALL.

In 2019 the story was already written. No chace TB comes back in 2020. The real beef in what happened between TB and BB in the years before and how BB choose to manage the team and the cap in those years.
