Patriots Training Camp Day 18 8/26- Joint Practice with Giants

Thing I disagree with you is that your point can't possibly be proven right. Even if Cam starts, your point still isn't proven right. It's like saying you know for absolute certain it'll be "heads" before a coin toss. It may well land "heads" but it wasn't a certainty when you called it.

For what it's worth I do think Cam will start week 1. I do think the odds are against Mac. I just don't think it's set in stone.

The thing is there has been no indication that Belichick believes there is a QB competition. In fact, virtually everything he has done shows that he has no intention of starting Jones at the start of the season and Cam is his starter. The QB competition seems to be more of a creation of the media and fans with no real evidence to support they are right other than Jones is playing really well.

I was proven right that this wasn't a rest day for Jones and they didn't start Newton today to give Jones a rest after throwing so much the last three days . That is what I claimed I was proven right. And since he played far more than Newton proves that.

nothing has changed in that BB has always determined he's going to start Cam.
But, nothing has changed in that we all know Cam will show his limitations and errors, and after X number of games it will become too much to continue. That's when BB will turn to Mac. It's all about how the team does, and how long Cam can fend off the inconsistency of what that X number is.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it but the fact that Bill said he has no timetable for baking a starter instead of his usual Cams the starter response says to me it’s at least a consideration who will be starting week 1.

I’m not knocking him. If you think that his stats and all pro status out him
In the category of an untouchable all pro position player ok. I think it’s apples to oranges myself.

No question, "all-pro punt returner" is a far cry from "all-pro left tackle" in the value hierarchy. But the fact remains that the team does need a PR, and Gunner is easily their best. Plus he plays on ST coverage teams as well, is entering his third year as a Pats WR on a team with a lot of turnover at the pass-catching positions, has a dirt-cheap contract, and has been consistently playing as the primary PR in camp. Put it all together and that's a lock to me.

Gunner also played 165 total ST snaps last year (41%), and they weren't all returns. I'd say he's pretty much a roster lock at this point.
In the game he returned a punt for a TD, he came out on the very next play and made the tackle on the kick return.

In the final preseason game of his rookie year, the one that cemented his spot on this team he played WR, PR, KR, CB and FS and played them all well. The kid is versatility personified… he’s a lock.

If two runners are going at it stride for stride I don't need anyone to announce its a race.

Sure. But I was responding to all pro punt returner = lock.

Never any indication? You mean like today when asked when he will name his starting QB and he said he doesn’t know yet when he will?

He has not named newton the starter and balked at the chance to.

Look Jones isn’t competing against Newton. Jones is competing against himself.
As soon as he is ready it’s his job.
He is not going to be held back if he is ready because we want to go with the worst starting QB in the nfl and see how that goes.

I have four brothers-in-law that shamelessly try to outdo each other with corny puns for hours on end once they get started.

.....Your post is making me very nervous about the same thing happening here. ;)
He's a MAChine. MACroaggregating his potential to inflict MACabre results on his opponents. If he were any sharper, he'd be a MAChete.

If you remove his Week 13 game (3 returns, 145 yards), he would still average 11.8 yards per return, which is tops in the league. And that's without removing the best game from the other PRs.

We're not even considering the punt return TD they called back in the Cardinals game (due to a mind numbing bcrap block flag). 82yds with a TD became 58yds.

No he's the guy who steals Lazar's tweet and post them like their his own. His post in the GDT & Lazar's TL are almost identical. Figures he'd get bent out of shape for misspelling his name.

I don’t think you were on the forum 10 years go, but if I recall correctly @PP2 used to go by Patspyscho and did very in-depth breakdowns of Xs and Os. At that time, there weren’t a ton of people doing them on Twitter. He was really knowledgeable about the Patriots schemes, definitely one of the board’s premier football guys. He doesn’t really post that content anymore.

not to be a persnickety SOB but....I don't believe PP2 was PatsPsycho. This board melted down in 2014 and everyone had to re-login. PP2 has been here a lot longer than 10 years...off topic- I miss Box of Rocks, RayClay, spacecrime, zoostation, Fencer and the Scrizz among others who infested this wonderful board back in 2004-5....time flies
