You totally ignore Art Modell blowing up the franchise.
Belichick was the head coach in Cleveland for 5 years... they sucked in 4 and were nothing special at all in the 5th. Belichick was not a good head coach or team builder in Cleveland. Go back and look at his drafts, they were terrible. The very first draft after he left, the new management was drafting hall of famers and yet it still took them several years to rebuild the mess left behind by Belichick.
Now Belichick has to clean up his own mess in New England, so far it's not going so well. Meanwhile Brady is still winning Super Bowls. Neither is surprising.
I said he was a game manager. That doesn’t make you average. If you are a really good game manager, you can be a very good QB. You can’t be elite though because you are not asked to do anything over and above all that often. But efficiency is required for a great game manager and only very good QBs are really efficient.
When you take a team that is 5-13 and go 14-3 leading them to a Super Bowl title with a game-winning drive in your very first season, you're elite.
When you win 3 Super Bowls (named MVP in 2) in your first 4 seasons with a franchise that had won 0 Super Bowls in it's previous 41 years of existence, you're elite.
When you're 9-0 with 5 game-winning drives in your first 3 trips to the postseason, you're elite.
What don't you understand?
It was clawhammer
He dismissed Bill's importance on every level until I called him out and his response was...
"Sure, Bill did some good things"
I'm not ashamed of my opinions so I don't need anyone "calling me out" to elaborate my position. Yes, I said that, Belichick has done some good things. And I said it in response to your obtuse claim that I think Belichick gets 0% of the credit for the Patriots Dynasty. Belichick gets more than 0%. If you want then I'll come up with a complete credit pie chart but that sounds rather tedious. Brady takes up the most space of any individual on the chart but he doesn't occupy 100% of the chart.
In summary I think Brady is the greatest player in the history of the league and he made everyone around him in New England better including Belichick. He's doing the same thing now in Tampa Bay including with Arians who Brady is going to put in the hall of fame.
Belichick is an average GM who has had some really long droughts in his career (particularly with drafts). I think Belichick the GM failed Brady miserably in 2006, 2013 and 2019. He otherwise surrounded Brady with enough talent to be productive and even still some of those seasons were Brady making good with an adequate supporting cast.
I think Belichick is an excellent defensive coordinator, although the 'bend but don't break' philosophy has backfired on the team in some big spots (2011 & 2017). I don't think he's a great head coach because all of his success is tied directly to Brady. Belichick is a failure as a head coach without Brady. The record is proof. And as a head coach he egregiously let Brady down in 2015 and 2017.
I don't think Brady the quarterback has ever let down his head coach. He gave Belichick 6 game-winning Super Bowl drives and he had the team in position to win the other three. That's phenomenal by any standard. I don't think Belichick had the proper appreciation or respect for what he had in Brady and ultimately he hastened the demise of the Patriots Dynasty. I guess that makes me a "crybaby" or whatever, I don't care, it's how I feel about it. That said, what Brady accomplished in Tampa Bay this season was pretty satisfying to watch. It validated his legacy further and I think validated 'Team Brady' if that's what you want to call it.
But no, Brady doesn't get 100% of the credit while Belichick gets 0%. Brady gets more. A lot more. Although, sure, Bill did some good things. He came up with a great defensive plan against the Rams in SB 36 (although the defense did run out of gas). Ditto SB 53. A+ offseasons for 2004, 2007 and 2014. There's more but I'll leave it for Team Bill.
