It doesn’t need to be number 1, but QB is a problem and you need to get a QB in the draft. If Brady, Brees, Stafford, whoever we’re available they are going to want to go to a win now team. Cam was just luck.

We need to be in position to draft an answer at QB
Cam was not luck. If he didn’t play like crap it would have been luck. As it turns out 31 other teams were right to not want him.

Did you see 2013 when Manning had one of the best seasons ever?
Having Manning for 2013 and winning a SB would have been greater than Lucks entire career.

I am surprised to see that Damien Harris averaged only 3.4 yards per carry (47 yards on 14 rushes).

I know there were a few attempts that resulted little or no gain, but watching the game it felt as though his average ypc was much more than that. It's nice to see a running back just vertically attacking the LOS with such force.
He also had some big losses. That can kill ypc.

Why couldn't have Bill drafted Jonathan Jones in the 2nd round in '16, Adam Butler in the 2nd or 3rd round in '17 and JC Jackson in the 2nd round '18? His drafting cred would be so much higher because apparently you don't get credit for UDFA gems

.
You actually get discredited for it. When you develop JC Jackson and he surpasses a draft choice and outplays that draft slot you are criticized by the idiot patrol for destroying the team with that draft pick.
So when you build the best franchise in history and draft picks have to compete for a job, you did a bad job drafting

Can someone help me please? I missed what happened after the goal line stuff and the next thing I know is "O" is returning a punt, albeit a short lived return.........

What happened in between, why a punt return?

Will take too much energy too go back through this thread. I appreciate any help.

Did you see 2013 when Manning had one of the best seasons ever?
Yeah. He had the best offensive cast in the entire NFL. Go back and watch game film. He was not as good as his 2004 season. He still lacked a lot physically. It was scheme and timing. He won with brain.

He would not have done that in Indy

I couldn't possibly dislike a player as much as N'Keal Harry. He is the biggest stiff ever,

The defensive scheme was excellent. We did a lot of things on the edge that took away what they wanted to do.
Agreed. A DT would be helpful but that has been true almost all year. And a Defensive End that can set the edge and rush. I think Jennings and Uche look good. Duggar was good again. We are rebuilding.

First off newton is awful and is the opposite of clutch. He could be the worst starting QB
In the nfl. Amazing they won today

Cardinalsls coach was a major reason why the pats won. Going for the TD at the end of half made no sense.

Special teams were great so that's something. Team still makes no sense. Lose to the broncos and Texans but win against the Ravens and Cardinals.
Kliff was fired from Texas tech. Hey sucks

The Patriots entered this season with a legitimate chance to win their division and/or compete for a wild card. They started the season beating a good Dolphins team, came within a yard of beating Seattle then easily took out the Raiders. For the "Tank" crowd when exactly should the Patriots have undertaken this fool proof strategy? Right from the get go? Should every team without Super Bowl aspirations tank every year to move up a few spots in the draft? This team had zero chance of ever getting Lawrence so the argument is should they have tried to go 5-11 vs something like 9-7 with the payoff being moving up 9 spots in the draft.

I’m not think kind of poster, but... I hope I never see Harry on the field again. Such a net-negative player it’s amazing.

Kind of a fun win though. Winning begets winning.

This is the new NFL, my friend. 4th and less than 5 or so? Go for it, field position, score, and game situation be dammed.

I said multiple times before the season started to give it 6 games. If they ended 2-4 (and I legit used that number) then it was historically a long shoot to make the playoffs and they should move on to next season. The correct move was then. More so when they went down to the Bills and lost any chance at the division.

And yes if we lost to the Jets and ranked the rest of the way we would either get Lawrence or Lance or Fields.

I called it right. The Jets win was meaningless. After that we beat the a Ravens in the rain and an injured Murray. Basically we could have afforded to lose those games and we’d be more in the Lawrence hunt now and guaranteed a decent QB prospect. Now I wouldn’t even be surprised if we didn’t pick one first round

How many teams you figure are looking for QBs? The Bengals, Chargers, Giants, Cowboys, Texans, Broncos, and Eagles already have made QB commitments.

It will be interesting to see if the Jetes make ANOTHER 1st round investment in a QB when they have Darnold.

The Falcons will probably draft a QB to replace Ryan. The Lions will probably be looking for one to replace Stafford.

The two teams that are question marks are the 49ers and the Jaguars. They may or may not draft a QB..
Dunno, you could make a case that many (even most) of those teams could be ready to hit the EJECT button on their QBs:

Giants could just move on from Jones, it's not like he's done anything and he's been there long enough.
Cowboys have no commitment, Prescott is a free agent this winter, is he not?
Texans probably unlikely to move on from Watson but you never know with a new regime (his new deal probably also makes this difficult)
Broncos - are they really that committed to Lock if they get a high pick? I would guess yes but could be wrong.
Eagles have been rumored to be looking to move on from Wentz.

JETE can and probably will dump Darnold off to the highest bidder (which probably won't be very high).

Then you have to wonder about teams like...
Atlanta - rumors about trading Matt Ryan
Washington - their best QB is Alex Smith
Detroit - new regime, could trade Stafford
Jacksonville - is Minshew the answer?? I'd guess no
San Francisco - they have an "out" with Jimmy G and could move on
Chicago - I doubt Foles or Trubisky are the future

Outside of a couple teams in the bottom half of the league - Cinci, LAC, Carolina - you could make a case for pretty much any team being game for one of these QBs.

You're just a completely different fan than I am. I do not consider any win meaningless as they are all part of the legacy of this franchise. I value the integrity of the game and would not be happy rooting for a team that was losing on purpose plus in my 45 + years of being a fan have yet to see evidence that the 8th pick is that much more valuable than the 15th.

I care about the ability to win championships. Any year we are not in a position to compete in the playoffs is an opportunity to get better next year.

Legacy wise having one horrible season and grabbing a QB and getting back to competing (ala Colts) is better than 3 years of 7-9 to 8-8. That’s a period of mediocrity as opposed to a quick rebuild. Nobody was going to ever hold this year against us the same way nobody holds the year we missed the playoffs in 2008.

This league is about championships not optically looking good.

You didn't call anything right. You just keep making excuses for winning. About half the league has no shot a SB every year, so if 16 teams all tank, nobody does.

Defense and st stole this one for us. We will need the offense to play much better because we probably wont get this many big plays/stops from d and special teams in the other games. However if we can get similar play from d and a big timely return here and there, coupled with the offense playing at least like they did from the bills game till last week we may make a run.

Cam just an awful game, first really poor game since the covid games. Needs to bounce back next week and stop turning it over. At least we finally started using him as a runner again and it led to some good things.

Folk and Bailey have been studs this year, as well as the coverage teams. Nice to finally get plays in the return game. As i said in the game thread, this isnt a team that can win consistently without big plays on st.

onto the chargers, one we can definitely win and be in position for an exciting finish. Still less than 50% we make the playoffs but its nice having games to look forward to and some hope, plus building on a better next year. The team’s history shows that tanking is not the answer, at least in my time of following the patriots. I think of the 3 worst seasons ive seen (started following in 93). 1993, 1995, 2000. All of these years started off horrible and we had even less of a shot at going anywhere than this years team. All of those teams won multiple games down the stretch aka on this board as hurt their draft position, but they were able to build on those teams and with a good offseason followed those up with great years, 2 were super bowl trips and one was a title. I think this team, if we can resign guy, Butler, andrews and use the rest of our cap wisely can have a good season next year. Keep fighting and hope for the best, gutsy team we have.
