BB Admits 2020 Is Bridge Year

They have no QB. The season begins and ends there... especially for the "weapons." Harry is in the head trauma ward due to the QB, not because he can't separate. You don't need to have the best QB in the league, but you need to have at least "good" QB Play, they don't have that.

They have the 30th ranked QB in the NFL in QR Rating. He has 2 TD's, 7 INT's, 3 Fumbles and oh yeah, he's only thrown the 29th fewest pass attempts in the league, his stats are buffered by the team's fear of letting him throw.

They have quite a bit of talent, but most of it's young and inexperienced. That's a world of difference from no talent. Next season they'll return most of the O-Line and Defensive backfield which are among the best in the league, the kids will have more experience and they'll find their QB in the draft or free agency. They're stacked with picks and flush with cash next season.

Yes it's obvious that Cam has not played well but he has a practice squad group of receivers and TE's right now. He is now throwing to all young, undrafted, receivers. Literally. Byrd is an undrafted journeyman who at absolute best is a fourth option. Zuber is an undrafted practice squad player. Meyers is a second year undrafted player. If Gunner actually gets involved he is also a second year undrafted player. Larry Izzo is our starting TE who is a 7th round practice squad level player. Keene cant even get on the active roster.

Who do they even have to build with on this roster? Some solid young O-linemen. JC Jackson who they will need to pay. Winovich who looked great but must have made eye contact with Bill in the hot tub or something and now loses playing time to practice squad players. The jury is out on this current rookie class because for some reason Bill won't even let them see the field in a year he based deemed lost already.

Most of the dead money is from Brady, who BB chose to move on from and was against giving any help to. Many of their cap problems came down to bad contracts to players who weren't being particularly productive for their numbers that they were forced to pay due to failed draft after failed draft.

The lack of legit young talent on this team is staggering. It's a story that isn't nearly brought up enough and that comes back to BB. I don't mind bridge years as they are a part of sports, but this and the cap problems we had were avoidable. We had a top QB and he walked because they couldn't put talent around him. We could have still had a window this year if things were managed better.

Imagine if instead of Michel they picked Chubb who should have been high on our board and was a need.. Imagine if Instead of Dawson we picked Mark Andrews who was a clear 2nd round talent on most boards, should have been on ours too. Imagine if Instead of Harry they picked AJ Brown or Metcalf.

Would this have needed to be a reset year if they didn't miss so badly on these picks or would the Pats have been able to hold on to Brady? If he was here would so many players have decided to opt out? I doubt it. We wouldn't be 2-5 but 5-2 and eyeing another deep playoff run.

I had to laugh when I read this. The misses in the draft and the lack of talent on the Patriots infiltrates every thread on PatsFans and every sports talk radio discussion. His legacy is on the line with Brady doing so well in Tampa that is why "excuses Bill" has shown up in spades this year. To think, he had league MVP Brady in 2017 on a great deal asking for an extension. He says no and whiffs so badly on drafting and building the team that Brady tells him see ya last year and then finds a loaded team to shine with. It truly was/is worst case scenario for Bill.

I agree he will still go down as the greatest coach there is but the fact that he mismanaged the end of the Brady era so badly and then started making excuses while Brady lights it up and his talent poor (broke) roster flounders doesn't help him in the Bill vs Brady arguments that will be had regardless of who likes it.

That’s an absolutely ridiculous argument. The hypothetical 2-14 season will be as quickly forgotten about as the 5-11 2000 season was after 2001 if Bill takes advantage of the massive opportunity in front of him for next season.
