Jarrett Stidham Gets First Team Work To Allow Brady To Recuperate

Who has faith in Stidham and why???
Faith in him? I mean beyond him being picked by Belichick, beating out Brian for the number 2 job, and having a good training camp...there isn't much we know about Jarret except that his first NFL pass was an INT returned for a TD.

BB's press conference about the Bills at the beginning of the week discussed this situation, and not just in reference to this week. Mostly it concerned the decision to have three quarterbacks, and discussed the problem of having just one when your first-string QB was injured or limited. The backup, in this case Stidham, would have to run both the first-string offense and the scout-team offense, and it's difficult to do both well. That's why they have Kessler.

And have had him for most of the season, so I imagine this is a situation they envisaged -- Brady out or limited, need two more quarterbacks. I had been wondering why they had Kessler, when limited roster spots have led to them waiving key players who could have helped (and still might have been able to help if they had them). This is why.
Can't a QB on practice squad run the scout team? Why do they need to take up an active roster spot for a scrub to run the scout team?

Awesome. Brady gets to rest and Jason Statham gets some reps.

Yes but clearly they don't have enough confidence in Stidham to run the team if Tom goes on IR.

He has good mechanics, quick release and is accurate. Plus, he is athletic and has mobility. What we don't know yet is how quickly he processes information under pressure and if he's a good decision maker, but that's a matter of getting the experience.

So he can ball against other college kids... Gotcha!

No, he completed two passes before that pick.

Not a good thing if the issue with Brady and his receivers is chemistry. They need all the reps they can get together.
The issue is the receivers knowing which option route to run. Brady knows where to place the ball and knows which routes they should be running. They need to learn that. But yes, I agree that more reps couldn’t possibly hurt. His elbow must be real banged up if he can’t take the reps in practice. Yet another example of why this team badly needs a bye week.

One of the reasons is remember he put up better rookie preason numbers then Jimmy and Jacobys rookie pre season numbers and argue put up a better performance

Jimmy Garoppolo, 2014
46-for-79 (58.2%)
618 yards, 7.8 Y/A
5 TDs, 1 INT
3 sacks
4 rushes for 8 yards

Jarrett Stidham, 2019
61-for-90 (67.8%)
731 yards, 8.1 Y/A
4 TDs, 1 INT
102.6 rating
9 sacks
17 rushes for 88 yards

Stidham was the most accurate rookie QB at training camp since Howe started tracking those stats. He had a 67% comp pct. & 100+ passer rating in the preseason with dropped TDs & dropped INTs.

I agree they may need to evaluate him in any way possible for 2020. The scenario where the Bears beat the Chiefs & the Pats beat the Bills would allow Brady to get two weeks of rest and the team to evaluate Stidham in the regular season.

I really wish there was something at stake for the Bears in that game this weekend.....

.

BB gonna do the Wally Pipp thingy here again?

That sounds great and it would be ideal, but we’d have to hope for some good, old-fashioned Christmas magic to see that pulled off.

So...how soon can the Patriots get Antonio Brown for a tryout? He played QB in high school

take pre-season numbers with a grain of salt

Than is for comparison. Then is for time sequence.

Aren't they in the running for a wildcard spot?

Naw, according to his Twitter feed, he's too busy right now buying a Gucci belt with which to beat his estranged children, evidently........
