GUNNER IS STAYING. Bye bye crossen

That’s why Harry is the one going on IR. Thomas’ return is a done deal because it’s a done deal. The Pats and Thomas negotiated his new contract before his release. I’m sure he got something of monetary value for cooperating.
No way Harry goes on IR.

How does this idea of yours lend itself to the idea that HARRY is the one going on IR?
There are at least 2 other players who are likely to go on IR in Burkhead and Calhoun.

The Patriots are likely to just reinstate Thomas' old contract.

Do they really want Harry not practicing for 8 weeks. He diddnt look that dinged up to warrant IR. Could they stash him there, sure. But why would they?

I'm not sure of their thinking, and I an neither championing nor opposing the following, but I can picture this line of thought coming up in a discussion:

"We've got Gordon and Thomas as big receivers, as well as having Edelman, Dorsett and Meyers. We don't really have a natural role that needs to be filled right away..."

Yeah, they are in a unique spot. Good problem to have. Its possible that they may try to release JM or GO after all rosters are more set. But its still real risky. Could they be shopping Dorsett? Seems too dependable/reliable/likeable to just part with.

Agree. They say he was improved but still walking gingerly before the Gints game.

He needs reps, reps and more reps

I’m just stating my opinion. Do you have insider information saying otherwise? Is it against NFL rules for a 1st round pick to spend time on IR in his rookie season? So, why is there “no way” it can be Harry?

It’s sure not ideal for your 1st rounder to miss time, but, as someone once said: it is what it is. Harry tweaked his hamstring in one of the joint practices with the Lions. He played (very well) in the game and hurt it further. He’s not played or practiced fully since. It just makes sense, given he likely would be inactive anyway with the numbers at WR, to give him time on IR and let his hamstring heal properly.

It would be awfully hard to run a short yardage or goal line formation with one TE against the Steelers when also considering your swing tackle will have only been in the building for 10 days.

I’m not 100% certain of this, but I think Harry would be able to resume practicing after 6 weeks. He needs a fully healthy hamstring as much if he needs reps. In fact, he can’t run meaningful reps without two healthy ones.

I think that Thomas is definitely coming back, but I don't see Harry going on IR. As a rookie, he needs to be with the team.

That’s the thing. Taking him away from football 2 months at this stage of his career would be awful and have long range implications.
I say if he wouldn’t be able to play in a game for 2 months the team is better having him on the active roster, inactive for games and practicing, than away from football while someone else practices and is inactive.

McCoy instead of Burkhead is fine with me. Besides, rookie Harris has been injured.
McCoy has nothing left. A team with no RBs better than burkhead just cut him

Has anyone here ever worked for a competent organization? These kinds of things aren't left to chance.

If the Pats want Thomas back, then the deal is already sewed up. It was thought through by the Pats management weeks ago, and negotiated and agreed upon several days ago with Thomas and his agent. Thomas will probably get either a raise or more guaranteed money in the contract that he signs on Tuesday.

And every GM in the NFL knows that, because a few of them will have called his agent by now and been told that he's not available, and the word gets around.

Do you really think that the Pats' management would just wake up today and think, "oh, wow, if we cut Thomas we might lose him."
C'mon.

There are 32 teams in the league. Never underestimate what others are willing to do if they see any edge.

Thomas no longer has a “may not play again” attached to his name. And he is now in an offense with a handful of WR options. Do you think he’ll still be cool with a contract that’s almost exclusively based on putting up big numbers? And one-year guaranteed for just a few million? I wouldn’t be if I were him.

It's been reported that Thomas WANTS to come back and that the Patriots are interested in having him back. Why would you think it's not more than 25% that he's back?

As was mentioned. Thomas isn't 100%. However, the Patriots were the ONLY team that reached out to him. He's stated that meant a lot to him. And it's why he would be willing to come back..

That seems to be the consensus, and I do think it’s true. I will admit there’s a small part of me that does think his agent might talk to him about how he now is essentially open for anybody who wants to sign him, and teams saw how good he looks, so it might be hard for him to turn a big offer somewhere else. It would be surprising, and disappointing, but I don’t think it would be shocking.

With Gronk, Hogan and Hoyer all gone, at least for the moment, I could see Brady just beating the tar out of BB if Dorsett got cut/traded. "I'm 42 f'in years old and you're pulling this **** with me?" Thump, Thump, Thump

Is it possible that the Pats floated Gunner’s name in the press as a cut in order to smoke out potential interest from other teams in terms of a 53 man spot elsewhere?

Although it technically may be tampering, I’m sure that agents get phone calls from other teams on cut down day. “Hey, I heard (player X) did not make the (Patriots) 53. We think he would be a great fit for us and would be interested in offering a spot on our 53 if this is true and he makes it to us on the waiver wire”

Not that Brady wouldn't have a point, however, do you think even Brady is going to get an answer different than a monotone "well Tom...trying to win a game...good opponents, quality...all 3 phases...on to next week"?

I dont think its like a clear cut like a FA. GO would be put on the waiver wire and everyone would just have to wait their turn to put in a claim. It would not be like DT' situation where there could be multiple teams interested and contacting his agent (granted that is probably not what happend with DT here as his agent prob told everyone the deal.)

That's a very funny image. Actually, in that case, I do think Brady would get a different response, just because of the time the two of them have spent together.
