Patriots trade 7th rounder to Falcons for TE Eric Saubert

I’m not worried in the least about any position so long as the Bills have a practice squad

He played a fair amount of snaps in the Dolphins Falcons pre season game. He's #85, has tattoo's on his left arm and a black sleeve on his right arm.

From what I saw:
Bull rushed by Tank Carradine until he stumbled and fell to the ground on a pass block.
Drops a low ball but catchable. Decent route? I don't know. Not an expert. Dropped a ball though!
Allowed Terril Hanks to toss him aside on a run play who then makes the tackle on the run play.
Puts effort in his blocks at least. Tries to fight but gets out leveraged.
Didn't react in time for a snap and the defender got inside of him easily.
He played in-line on most of his snaps but not a good blocker. Didn't do much in the receiving game. Caught one ball on a scramble checkdown.
Played on kickoff unit, punt unit(lined up at long snapper's left), Punt return(Interior Rusher)

My initial take on him is that he sucks. Can't block, doesn't offer much in the passing game but at least he tries hard. So maybe with the right coaching something can happen? Definitely a flyer.

I’m getting a Jalen Saunders vibe here. The Patriots borrowed him for 4 days and one preseason game a few years ago, without giving up any draft compensation since he didn’t make the roster. That’s what matters right now, getting another body who is capable of playing with the third team offense without looking completely out of place.

What are the conditions of the conditional pick?

TC fodder?? Or another Mike Vrabel or Kyle Van Noy who the Pats think they can "coach up" and meet a need??

Unfortunately, right now he looks like the former..

Get well soon, Matt!

I am starting to really feel bad for whoever makes this team at TE this year. Not that any of them should be considered great, but it's going to be hard not to compare them to Gronk which is just not fair at all. It'll be like the first QB after Brady: It's been so long since we had to consistently watch a "normal" quarterback that we're going to think he sucks, even if he's actually above average.

The Titans have accumulated 8 TE's. We have practices and a game this week with them. Maybe Bill and Mike will make a deal...we'll see.

What did you think BB saw in him then?

Our three most likely TE's are suspended, injured and injured. We need camp bodies. And yes, we may very well acquire another TE.
Whether or not the position is a dumpster fire isn’t proven by trading fir a special teams player who plays there too.

Calling this one Qbert ............

My understanding is depending on severity high ankle sprains can be recovery times of 4-8 weeks.

Which is a bummer. Their going to bring in another one even after Saubert. Need to have one or more TE's that are at least average or better to open the season.

So, with the Watson suspension, we're going to have to play the first 4 games with less than ideal depth at TE. I figure that even with sub-optimal TE's, we can win 3 of the first 4 games:
Pittsburgh Steelers
at Miami Dolphins
New York Jets
at Buffalo Bills

We'll lose in Miami . . . just because
