Read a piece which the writer speculated Josh would replace McCarthy after this season. Makes sense as Rogers is the QB and it is Green Bay. It's fairly accurate that McCarthy will be fired. I think if Josh does not take this job (provided it's his), then he stays in New England until BB retires.

Report: Packers could eye Josh McDaniels as Mike McCarthy replacement

I didn't expect him to leave after one season after last year's fiasco, but I would not blame him for jumping at the Packers' job. An historic organization with a great QB. Plus, they've had just two head coaches in the last 19 seasons and only 14 in their nearly 100 year history. You can expect them to be patient with him unlike most teams.

If I’m josh and it’s a choice between packers and patriots, for the family, I’d stay in New England but professionally, I’d go to the packers. It would not be fun following in the footsteps of Belichick and Brady. You can’t win over the fans. Anything but a Super Bowl is bust. It’s like the managers that came after Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

i would love it if he stayed until Brady retires

Counterpoint: he would HAVE to win a SB with Rodgers almost immediately. AAron is gonna be 35, and anything but a SB is considered a bust by Packers fans too, esp if you come in as an offensive coach that won Super Bowls with Tom Brady. The argument against McCarthy isn’t just “we could have a better coach!” it’s “OH MY GOD this guy is killing Aaron Rodgers prime IF WE JUST HAD A BETTER COACH we’d have won 3 Super Bowls”.

If it were an option, as a competitor I would think Josh would HAVE to take that job unless he already knows he’s got the NE job lined up to transition in like, 2020. But that it would be less pressure isn’t the reason.

If we assume that at best he would be taking over NE with a 43-year old TB or (more likely, perhaps) whoever the next QB is and perhaps a roster stripped of all veteran talent, with BB still around as prez/GM I don’t think the “can’t win the fans” argument really holds. He’d be a near 20 year part of the organization with a great opportunity and some leeway to build the next phase. The fans will follow if it works. Besides, half the fans from here are usually ready to annihilate BB as it is now even with all his success.

Didn't we go through this last season ending? Why again this season ending? He has an agreement with BB and Kraft.

Plans and commitments change men or only loyal to their options.
I wouldnt be angry id understand if he took the Green Bay or Cleveland job.

I would think J.Mac signed his lucrative deal with intent to stay majority yrs of his contract. RK sweetened his deal by making him highest paid Coach (HC excluded). Couple of scenarios are he's here to be successor to BB or here for duration of TB's tenure and both can be considered. But of course any of this can change if some team comes in and gives him full reigns and its a deal that's too good to be true and it probably would be.

GB no !

Rodgers is old.

The only reason Josh will not take a job in Green Bay ( if it is offered for him) is a deal between him and BB and Kraft guarantees him being a coach after BB's retirement. Otherwise Josh is gone as our OC after this season.

It still may not be enough to be with Rodgers or Mayfield

It would be easier for him to pass the blame on the old regime at Green Bay. He can’t do that here.

Again with the McDaniels speculation...

Who even knows anymore? As attractive as the opportunity would be, you have to think that Josh has set up some roots in the area, is well compensated until the day BB retires and, has a great relationship with the Krafts(especially Johnathan who will be the one running the operation) and knows he'll have at least a 5-year window with the Pats.

I don't follow the Packers or McCarthy, but McCarthy's team has won their division 6 out of 12 times, posted winning seasons 9-10 times, and a got super bowl ring. Maybe there is good reason to fire him, but that record alone would probably make him a top five coach in the league.

Just by reading posts in the GDT I’m sure there’s a few who would welcome a josh to GB move.

Based on that thread we'd be out of coaches, out of quarterbacks, down to 2 starting lineman, 1 running back, 1 corner, 1 safety and a linebacker. The owner is gone too......but the cheerleaders are safe.
