Can't reboot with a 41 year old QB. They had their chance with the Garrapolo trade but Bill passed
Meh. I still don't think Jimmy is a Super Bowl quarterback. Long-term the Patriots are better off going into stench mode at some point and replenishing the roster with talented, yet cheap rookies. We're entering into that phase of mediocrity that plagues Green Bay as Brady loses a little bit (but not a ton). I can't see winning a Super Bowl at this point unless we somehow dig really deep; we just don't have the talent.

Idk about this. He's the goat TE so it's unfair to compare him to any rookie but but hasn't looked the same all year. He's absolutely closer to the end than the beginning.

There's been a few TE's that have come into the league the past few years that could have been great here.

I get what you're saying though. Ive really seen this coming w Gronk though.

We have to move forward in terms of the position next year. Not saying he won't be on the team but we have to upgrade from what we have nonetheless. We're just too thin, he goes down & we get nothing from that spot.

Agree he is closer to end than beginning. I still think he’s a quality TE if healthy. That’s key. I want to see how he looks once back from the bye before forming the opinion if he’s done or not.

And yes we definitely need to address TE next year. I just hate relying on a rook coming in day 1 as a quality starter. The chances of hitting like we did with Gronk/Hernandez are slim imo. I think the way to do it is like Phillys doing with goedert playing 2nd fiddle to ertz this season.

Any QB prospects we should be looking out for?

Not nitpicking & generally agree. I'm not saying he's done but even when healthy this year save a game or two he's been more a decoy & less effective

Sounds super obvious, it is to a point but we have to hit on the right guys. Maybe more importantly pull the trigger or go get that guy if need be by trading up.

Funny I can make this thread though..

Oh well. nvm

I think the Pats need a retool at several key positions. Brady is still a very good QB but he doesn't always seem to be as sharp and consistent as he once was. For a 41 year old, he is still a wonder and has some good years left, but an heir apparent is definitely needed, and soon. I think a good choice would be Northwestern standout Clayton Thorson. I believe BB had his eye on Thorson in the 2018 draft, but he decided to go back for his senior year. Thorson would probably be available in the second round, where the Pats have 2 picks. Also, injuries seem to be piling up on Gronk. Like TB, he is still a top tier talent but I wonder how much more pounding his back and knees can take. I like Zach Gentry of Michigan in the 2019 draft. It would be good to have Thorson and Gentry waiting in the wings and gaining experience behind TB and Gronk. With those two and a couple of picks on defense, the 2019 draft would, IMHO, be a success.

I didn't say he is. But if Bill had put him on the open market he could have gotten a lot more picks to do a fast rebuild. One #2 was a joke, we knew it then and know it now.

Dude- I like you but get control of yourself.

Garoppolo is really working out for SF. $42M cap hit, 1-2 record, 3 interceptions, 4 fumbles, injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Trade value. That was the "reboot" opportunity.

We still have an extra second and third round pick this coming draft plus Duke Dawson as a result of the trade.

The D needs a reboot regardless how the season turns out. I don’t care what they end up ranking defensively as I don’t care for that stat that is so popular with certain posters on here. They just don’t have a lot of talent.

Offensively, it’s seems like the Pats WR’s and opponing DB’s become Siamese Twins.
