Patriots Injury News Mike Reiss Provides Clarity on Jacas' Absence

Full caveat: this is coming from Bedard.

with Jacas.

"From the people that I've talked to in the building, and I've asked them directly, and they could be lying to me, I don't know, but they are not frustrated or upset or anything with Gabe," Bedard said on Patriots Press Pass on CLNS Media on Tuesday. "This isn't ideal."

Bedard noted that all of Jacas' injuries should have been known to the Patriots during the pre-draft process, so it's not something that has come up out of nowhere. He noted that the Patriots knew Jacas would miss the offseason and were supposedly fine with that. However, the contract not getting signed is something that may not have been anticipated.

“As long as the Patriots knew about (his injuries), where we are right now, should not be a surprise to anybody," said Bedard. "He was going to miss the offseason to get right. My read on it is the Patriots were just fine with it. They understood that.

Good to hear I guess.

Last year is irrelevant.

All rookie 2nd round contracts have been signed. Guaranteed money not a holdup.

Jacas is a separate issue, and an isolated case.

Yeah he really looks like he's nursing an injury there.
He is wearing a sleeve on his left leg, do you honestly thing that is just a fashion statement???

To people trashing him, let's not rewrite history. Pretty much *all of us* were pumped for the signing (myself included). He was a captain, a high character, high motor hard working guy. Just to refresh our memory:

Hopefully he gets healthy, they figure this **** out, and he lives up to his potential.

"Character Issues"

It does seem that at best we have a player with character issues.

Given his college injuries, it would seem that patriot staff did much checking and many physical exams. This would seem to be normal protocol.

It seems likely that something was undisclosed or hidden from the patriots. With regard to the contract, if all this was innocent, at very least he and his agent should try to show a positive attitude. Why wouldn't he show up at practices, even as a non-participant while the medical issue was being addressed? And, YES, if there is an undisclosed issue, he should accept a lower level of guarantees.

If there is no real issue, surely the patriots could have him at practice and could tell everyone that the signing is delayed until the medical issues are addressed and that the team expects to see Jacas in camp and for him to be a contributor to start the season.

BOTTOM LINE
We are likely not to learn anything until camp physicals.

As usual you don't know wtf you are talking about. You don't know what procedure he had, and you don't know what the patriots stance is. Every report on Jacas has been to the effect that he has a high level of character and commitment to football. And just because someone won't sign what the Patriots proffer it doesn't call their character to question.

Guaranteed money not a holdup.
The holdup is giving him guaranteed money without knowing his exact current medical condition. Sometimes medical guarantees have exclusions for pre-existing conditions. Guarantees are typically meant for new injuries.

At this point no players are in the building anyhow, so makes most sense to delay finalizing the terms until just before camp starts.

Aggravating an existing injury is another very legitimate concern, for which the player should be protected if they are being pressured to return to action before being fully healed.

Back to your old ways Sam. Must be quite a heavy burden.
Yep. Poor 'Ol Sam is our local Sisyphus.
Doomed to forever push that huge boulder up the hill, only for it to go rolling back down the hill just before he reaches the top.
And the boulder always rolls back down the hill. Becaus he's always wrong.
But you gotta admire his consistency.
