Oregon's Justin Herbert expected to return for senior season despite being No. 1 pick candidate

Wonder how much of this might have to do with him wanting to win something at Oregon.

No offense but u seem a lil knee-jerky on some of ur assessments (Herbert, Haskins etc)

Both are young & really it's their first time on the big stage as draft picks.

It was obvious OSU screened them to death in the PSU game but Haskins still made a few really nice plays.

It was also the first time he's dealt w real pressure.

He wasn't stepping into his passes, footwork was off which was never great but casting +/- off 1 game is dangerous imo.

A penn state player said before that game he knew a few guys that played with Haskins and they allegedly said some things basicAlly questioning his toughness. Based on what I have seen from him under pressure, there might be some truth to that. He’s got some serious arm talent though. Too bad he has absolutely no running game behind him to help open things up. I mean they couldn’t even run on penn state, and nearly everybody has done that this year

It's the whole package. Wanting to win for his hometown (he's from Eugene), wanting to play with his brother and he is young, with just one full year as a starter. Yes, more starts than Trubisky but still low on total starts.

2019 QB Class isn't hard to figure out in terms of investment.

Even if Herbert, Haskins etc had monster years your still looking at players w very limited resumes.

Talented players but guys w very limited action against adverse conditions. You want to see a player fail/have a tough time & see how he'll deal w it. You want to see everything, warts & all. To make the best decision you can.

Drew Anderson of Murray State is a QB sleeper to keep an eye for the rest of the year...full credit goes to ckparrothead from the finheaven forum for his excellent work tracking Anderson's progress.

From my initial glance, he reminds me of Josh Allen with better accuracy.

Buffalo transfer. Very intriguing. Talked about him & Jackson in my thread a bunch over the summer. Lots of arm talent.

1.) Herbert - still the best draft eligible qb in this draft.

2.) Grier - would seem to fit in our system and should be available in the second round.

3.) Jones of duke. Still raw but with two years on the bench, he should develop into a decent qb.

Yes, that was a dud. But his accuracy and arm strength are without question. With more experience, his decision making will improve.

Week 10 qb review:

1.) Herbert - bounce back game was kind of ho-hum against a weak UCLA defense.

2.) Grier - wow, what a last minute comeback against Texas, he showed incredible mental toughness and really threw the ball well. His arm is not the strongest, but he can make ALL the throws.

3.) Finley - he remains incredibly accurate with the ball. The arm is really weak, but he puts the ball where his guy can get it.

Jones of duke had a rough game is the monsoon of south Florida, but did pull out a win.

Overall this class is not that good.

Jalen Hurts might be a sleeper. It's hard to say when he would leave though. He could leave now and avoid sitting through another year of Tua. He could leave next year after sitting through another year of Tua. He could be a graduate transfer and have one year to prove himself elsewhere.

He reminds me of Russell Wilson a little bit, considering his predicament and skill set. He's definitely more than just an athletic QB. He has a good arm, good mechanics, and solid decision making skills. He's also supposedly a big time leader in the locker room.

Maybe, but a couple things to note... He was a frosh/soph, and Tua is perhaps a future top 5 pick. That's a lot for Hurts to compete with. Not to mention, was Hurts even used or coached correctly? Supposedly, they brought in a new OC/QB coach that has improved Hurts a lot in the past year. Prior to that, they were competing for national championships without needing a passing offense at all. I can easily see them telling Hurts to just not lose it, and him complying with the request.

During Hurts' soph season, it's clear that they started going to Tua on occasion. Why? Other than potentially being a better passer, maybe Tua is just more of a gunslinger, something they were coaching out of Hurts.

I've seen that happen a lot in QB competitions. The incumbent is often times not treated fairly.

To your point, he's a very good mobile QB, but he's also a guy with good throwing fundamental who takes care of the ball and has a good head on his shoulders. This would put him above a majority of mobile QBs, as they all tend to have serious weak points in their games.

Belichick has taken mobile QBs before. Kevin O'Connell comes to mind. Cassel was mobile-ish. Jimmy G had some mobility. The deal is that he's had Brady for 15+ years, so he hasn't had to be too serious in his search. Plus, he's probably looking mostly for backups with the same characteristics as Brady, which is often a good strategy at any position.

Supposedly they were serious about looking into Lamar Jackson this past year, although I cannot fathom why.

I can't believe Hurts is being discussed here. He is a mediocre college QB, his upside is an NFL backup. He was holding the Bama offense back, that was obvious before Tua went in. McCarron was a stud compared to Hurts. Hurts its a great teammate, though he may have a future as a coach but not as a player
