Krafts: Brady has earned the right to decide when to leave

Hey, Kraft boys... I love how you've given us two decades of excellence with this team...

...that said... when it comes to discussing players and GM type stuff...

...with all due respect...

Why can't Bob just take a page from his coach and QB's book and shut his mouth about this internal stuff? All he is doing here is lending credence to Wickersham's piece.

And yeah he has every right to but it doesn't mean he should.
Bob is under the impression that by showing how committed he is to Brady, fans will forgive him for rolling over during Deflategate.

I agree with him. Personally, I would allow Brady to go an entire season without a win and I would let him play it out. That man has given me the greatest enjoyment as a sports fan.

Kraft has said that BB will be the coach in 2018.
BB has said that BB will be the coach in 2018.

So what's the problem? This isn't some covert CIA op, for crying out loud.

Beyond that there is no way both coordinators walk if Belichick were retiring.

Same BB who's said he'll be back to coach next year? Why did he have to go public with that? Why couldn't he have just said that he'd have it on the injury report?

BB needs to have control over BB, because BB's loose lips are going to ruin the organization!
BB can talk about himself all the time. Heck, even Kraft can talk about his employees. I don't know what you made you think that this was the problem...

What I don't like is talking about internal problem, even hinting at that. That's something you won't see BB doing, but Kraft, as his last statement proves, will.

I can put a higher font on text too, if that makes it easier for you to understand

Gotta admit, do not love this business of giselle being annoying, brady’s desires to play “until 45” while forcing the dealing of jimmyg and then turning around 3 months later, saying “brady can leave whenever”....

Might be time for bob to sort of step out of the limelight a bit.

Why is this even a question?

Of course Brady has the right to retire when he wants, so has every other player in the NFL If he comes into camp and the back up is better than him he has a decision to make, but that’s never happened. Belichick had every right to start Garrapolo if he thought he was the better player, he didn’t, because he never won the job, and Brady shouldn’t be expected to hang them up when he’s not only the best player in history, or in the NFL over the past 5 years, but is actually the best player in football this season, and right now.

Jonathan said it not Bob. I know some of you guys want to string him up but he's the one that gave the non answer, answer to AK's question about TB and BB. I think he's getting sick of the stupid question.

Or you could just realize that it's football, not international espionage, and that nothing remotely problematic was compromised by the statement, and you could then get a freakin' grip.

Nothing of the sort was said during the interview.

This wouldn’t be the first time Kraft lost a Hall of Fame coach by pulling back control over player personnel. So far as I’m concerned, the less the Krafts say, the better.

Absolutely not.

I have zero interest in seeing Tom struggle though a 0-16 season.

Screw that.

In Bob and Jonathan's interview with NFL Network they both said that Brady "has earned the right" to decide when to leave. They also acknowledged that there has been "tension" but deny there is any "dysfunction".

Nothing earthshattering, but it does seem to confirm what's been said/implied in the Wickersham piece and others that Brady's fate is out of Belchick's hands.

He has. They're right.

I'm sure Belichick doesn't like having a football decision taken out of his hands either - but Brady is indeed a special case.

I don't doubt there IS friction over the Krafts effectively saying that they're committed to Brady as long as he feels he's playing at a level in which the team can compete for another title.

Clearly, barring injury, Brady's all in with his Tom vs. Time campaign - so he's fully invested too.

I don't doubt the Pats got less for Garoppolo in the process too - but they wanted to send him somewhere he'd be less prone to haunt them, so that's worth a little less.

But yes - I'd have to agree completely that the GOAT gets to determine when he'll retire - and for the Patriots organization keeping him here his entire career is decades of marketing gold.

How many investors do you have lined up?

Parcells never had complete control guaranteed, Belichick does. If he retires you are right, if not feel free to come back and own it.

How is the “ football decision” taken out of Belichick hands when he could have started Garrapolo any time he showed he was the better choice?

Kraft would never let Belichick trade his favorite quarterback on a big contract...well, sure, he did it once. By Drew, hello Tom.

Right, but don’t you think that is really both of their positions? I am not a huge fan of pretending is above the team (not saying he is), where that appearance of that is there, when you preach TEAM all the time.

It is sort of weird that kraft and apparently brady, are still clueless that there are people out there looking for any excuse to come after you.

I don’t know. I much preferred the under the radar pats from yesteryear as opposed to this L.A. baloney. It just isn’t boston and not a patriots thing.

In other words, couldn’t this whole tb12 complex and tom vs time be something he does after retirement/cusp of retirement?

The krafts and brady have this thing, where they come off really aloof at times. It is very odd.

So now he starts talking like a fan?

:D
