If the NFL was looking for fix game outcomes to boost ratings for future games, no way either the Steelers or Saints are losing last weekend. In what universe is Clete Blakeman an AFC Championship Game quality NFL ref???????? The 3 worst refs are Triplette, Blakeman, and Bogar, and two of them have now been in charge of playoff games, the first one to predictably "hilarious" results.

The only issue I have with blakeman is that his crews are always ticky tack with their penalties. But this may be to our benefit since jacksonville is one of the more penalized teams in the league this year.

I thought Torbert's crew on the whole did a fine job last week. And Steratore and Vinovich are two of the best in the game, so I would have no problem with them either. I forget the 4th ref, but don't recall any major issues there either.

The larger issue is that it'll still be an all-star crew for the Super Bowl, so whatever referee gets assigned the Super Bowl will likely be working with different people from both his normal crew and from his crew in the divisional round (although likely one or two members would overlap from the latter). So you'll have the communication issues of not working together at play again (i.e. the false start / neutral zone infraction issue in the 2nd quarter on the punt attempt).

Not really. The rationale was that it would be faster, which seems not to be the case.

They seem to also have abandoned the irrefutable evidence standard. I am actually fine with that, though. Let the replay determine what the replay determines, and not say "if the refs initially decided this, then I have to go with it, but if the refs initially decided that, then I have to go with that". If you're 60% sure that a guy didn't legally catch a ball, rule that he didn't legally catch the ball.

Just do it a whole lot faster!

Huh. Well they’ve sure given us the benefit with very close calls this year, so I’d say yea.

They (IMO) CLEARLY have tried to "fix" games to boost ratings. Just your definition of fix and mine differ.

For the most part, the nyjfl may not care which team wins. But they sure as heck care that important (postseason) games are NOT BLOWOUTS. that is how they want to fix the game: hold the viewer til 4th quarter so they can charge the most ad $. [the SB Safety was the preeminent example of this IMO. But I think it was still going on this postseason, keeping games close.]

All you have to do is go back to the Pitt SB year and you could clearly see programmed ref bias against Pitt when payment was on the field and then gravitated to Big Ben vs the seahags. In that timeframe Gotohell marketing strategy seemed to be focused on having a couple big personalities.

Then all the various 'points of emphasis' memos that went out to teams weekly for a couple years. Amazing how most of those Poe memos seemed to focus on one specific type of player (Gronk) and one team 's style.

You can call me a tinfoil hat guy and I'll call you a blind man walking with his assist dog. (I'll take no offense, hope you don't either). Maybe the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but I think Gotohell f-ed with the refs the same way he f-ed with the ops guys and the punishment system. Still can't believe the 32 morons could think extending him is a good idea.

Hardly ticky tack - he was the one that picked up the flag that was thrown when Gronkowski was bear hugged against the panthers a few years ago. I’ll never forget.
