Wow you are easily impressed.
First drive 5 plays 13 yards.
Second drive. Impressive 95 yards TD drive.
Next 7 drives. 30 plays 49 yards
(Including a 3rd quarter of 3 drives for -15 yards)

Then a TD drive in garbage time against backups.

He was awful.
Considering the number of meltdowns we've seen by young QBs in the playoffs vs this team he did OK.

anyone reading anything into both Matt and Josh leaving this year?

Matt was never a very hot candidate until this year, so that makes sense, but Josh had his pick last few years, and wwill continue to do so, unless he sees something change?

that something could be brady/BB related? one of the two would not be leaving if BB had made it clear he was planning on retiring, so did BB decide he'd continue coaching for another 5 years or something?

or does Josh see a decline in Brady we dont? or are relationships that used to be strong now a little weaker?

just spit balling

or was it communicated internally that Nick would be the de facto guy after Bill so Matt and Josh are leaving? (would Nick hire some other coach?)

Matt has been on the coaching conversation as a strong name for 2 years at least and Josh since forever. There will be a time they will leave and that has nothing to do with that Espn piece. Josh was considered long gone 2 years ago, he stayed and I think he stays a little longer.

Again pretty low standard. So giving your team zero chance to win is ok?
What QBs have done worse against us in the last number of years?

I think McDaniels is long gone. He has the colt job in his pocket, may have the giant job as well, and it appears Tennessee will now be bidding for him.
What would he be waiting for?

Andy- I was RELATIVELY impressed in the context that the kid didn't lose his ****. He faced a complex defense, on the road vs a VERY good, battle-tested team all while his RB did squat and his defense was getting torched.

Don't read more anything more into my statement than that.

Something about how the team came right out after the game to announce his leg injury felt like they needed to coddle him with an excuse for everything you wrote. It's not even a knock so much on Mariota (except to gently whisper "Mr. Glass"), but it's incredible that they had no apparent way to adapt their gameplan for a leg injury when Mariota's apparently had hamstring issues all season.

He’s been the top HC candidate (or one of) for a few years now and yet he is staying so I don’t know, maybe something personal related to family, maybe he’s really waiting for a better situation than the ones he’s got offered so far, maybe a personal desire to replace BB. Many possibilities, what we know is that if he wanted to be HC at all costs during these past years opportunities never seem to be a problem.

In a not so weird coincidence, all the teams looking for a new coach have problems. Only one was a playoff team.

One thing that speaks volumes is that they fired Murlakey in a very unethical way after giving him an extension right after the game so maybe something went on on the backstages? maybe a handshake agreement with Josh?

You said that before but where are the job offers he turned down? Being a candidate doesn’t mean getting an offer.
He begged off of Cleveland for obvious reasons.
He either lost out to shanahan it decided against a job with an owner who fired his hc 3 consecutive seasons.
None of that says he chose to stay over getting a less than unacceptable hc job

Huh?
He didn’t get an extension.
They mutually agreed to part.

Wait you mean the teams that are stocked and winning aren’t hiring new head coaches? Shocking isn’t it.

I think he was alluding to the reports that were coming out was a long-term extension and then all of a sudden they mutually part ways.
It's not out of the realm of possibility that tbe Titan brass while in foxboro reached out to Josh and he replied yes please.

Really would be the same no brainer as Patricia choosing Detroit over the Giants.

Loyko must have a really good "keen sense of the obvious" and a lot of hubris to post this. McDaniels has ALWAYS been the best fit for the Titans. Any time there was a discussion about where Josh might go, Tennessee always topped the list.

Shows how much these guys are such "look at me, I'm smarter than you" types to post this kind of tweet. He might as well have posted, "the sun will rise in the east....just as I predicted months ago."+

Unfortunately now my last hope that Josh might stay another year until the Titan's job opened up is gone. Gutsy move by Robinson to fire a HC who made to the divisional round, but it was clearly the right one.

BTW- I ALWAYS felt the Colts job was not a lock for Josh. The Irsay factor HAD to be a big obstacle to overcome, as well as Luck's health. You know outside of Josh, there haven't been many names linked with the Colts job. You would think that with a healthy Luck, they would be lining up to try and get that job. Maybe the Irsay factor goes league wide.

I would think twice before taking a job for an owners and execs that went back on their word in the span of a few days about the very job I would be taking.

Josh should just wait another year. The Colts job isn’t very enticing either. You can’t go from working for a guy like Kraft to people like Irsay and Adams.

  • Agree
Reactions: TBR

I thought he was indeed signed after the KC game but Im not following the news very closely so my mistake.

They never gave him an extension.

It was semantics. Adams said they want him but the OC was the issue.

I bet Mularkey too umbrage to it and they decided it was best to move on and focus on Josh

My guess is they wanted him to replace some coaches and he declined.
Or maybe it was a you aren't getting Marcus where he needs to be or questioned his game plan wither way moot point he's out.

Yea clearly there was some discourse.

It's a chance to basically triple your salary, from assistant to head coach, with the risk being reduced job security.

So you may wait awhile to find a spot that minimizes that risk, but you still want to make the jump.
