Mularkey out in Tenn; Titans aiming for McDaniels

I definitely wouldn't go to Tenn just because of the fact that they have Logan Ryan on a 10 mil/yr contract.

It's official: Titans Part Ways with Head Coach Mike Mularkey  says:
Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk released a statement on Monday morning:

In fact, we did discuss extending his future with our team over the past week, but in those discussions about the direction of the team, it became evident that we saw different paths to achieve greater success.

It is certainly unfortunate that we couldn’t find enough common ground.
I generally believe that continuity is the best path for success, but I also view this as an important moment for our football team as we try to make that next step to sustained success on the field. Jon will begin the search immediately to identify that person.”
I think there's more to the story.

Just a week ago this same owner was endorsing him.

I'd have to think the GM forced the issue.

It's clear the team would not be getting any better with Mularkey and his staff as coaches.

Josh will have some interesting decisions to be making soon.

Hopefully he and Matty P know the drill: We're on to Jacksonville.

However both must know their future lies outside of New England.

It's going to be hard to stay focused on AFCCG and then possible SB, especially knowing that if you lose the AFCCG you can get started on the biggest challenge in your life two weeks earlier.

Hope they can stay focused!

I don't think the Tennessee job is attractive but, there's not many openings left and we don't know what kind of challenge Josh wants to face but if he goes to Tennessee he better get used to that salty taste of losing because that's what that franchise is all about. No pedigree.

Josh needs a QB with good passing skills to execute his offense, Mariota is very limited but Tennessee will stick to him for years like teams stuck with Flacco, Dalton and others. Your QB is not bad enough for you to make a move and there's hope he can keep taking you to the playoffs and hopefully getting hot in a playoff run. Also the team presents no direction as of now, its a interesting challenge if he is looking for that kind of situation where he can start from the scratch and develop his program but for immediate success the Indy job seems more prone to that if they get the right QB on the draft or Luck comes back healthy.

If he is patient, in a year or two there will be openings in Dallas, Seattle, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, maybe New England, maybe Baltimore (long shot).

According to a unnamed source the one reason Nagy turned down the Colts job when it was offered to him was that due to the cortisone steroid shots Luck was getting in his shoulders he has no blood flow going to the shoulder currently and is in risk of never playing again.
If I'm choosing Colts with maybe never having Luck right or ever back again.
Or Mariotta I'm picking Mariotta.

How is Dallas, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Green Bay or Baltimore better than landing the Colts or the Titans ?

Rodgers is 34, Big Ben 35.. so in a year or two they will be close to their respective ends. Seattle is already falling apart because of bad roster management and will either try to stay averagely competitive via FA or just accept the rebuild around Wilson. The Ravens are stuck with Flacco for the next two years thanks to the genius contract and also dont really have a big talent pipeline running.

All of this is just pure name recognition. Mariota and Luck* are 24 and 28 respectively so there is potential for longterm planning with QBs in place.

* Obviously depending on his exact injury situation

They showed Luck throwing like 50 yard passes in practice on NFL Network in week 4-5 when he was throwing to try and come back this year.

How can you throw a 50 yard pass with no blood flow?

That would be impossible.

There are serious plusses/minuses to both jobs but if Luck's health is that much in question, then it should be Tennessee. Neither of these jobs sounds totally attractive, but it's probably time McDaniels cashed in as he rides the top of the wave. Now that Indy and Tennessee are poised to compete for his services, he should get a hefty payday. I just hope he doesn't try to be BB and is his own man as he embarks on his second stint as HC.

Even though he didn't light the world on fire I was relatively impressed with Mariota. Thought the kid played pretty well considering he was playing vs the Greatest Sports Team To Ever Walk The Face Of The Earth. Didn't make a ton of bad mistakes. Showed grit vs KC.

Quite frankly, I LOVE Nashville. 1000 times better than Indy IMO.

If this all goes the way I see it, Josh would be wise to pick TEN over Indy especially if the blood flow problem is true for Luck.

I would prefer that these coordinators go to the NFC. As for McDaniels....I wouldnt go to Indy because I think the owner is very important in how the team will be run...and everyone knows Irsay is a pyscho!

I read something in the Colts forum months ago about these cortisone shots being far from an ideal situation, I don't remember any specifics about blood flow but there was indeed a risk as it does in any medical procedure.

They have very little on the books in 2019 and a lot of cap room in 2018, Ryan doesnt have much dead money in 2019 if they want to ditch him.

anyone reading anything into both Matt and Josh leaving this year?

Matt was never a very hot candidate until this year, so that makes sense, but Josh had his pick last few years, and wwill continue to do so, unless he sees something change?

that something could be brady/BB related? one of the two would not be leaving if BB had made it clear he was planning on retiring, so did BB decide he'd continue coaching for another 5 years or something?

or does Josh see a decline in Brady we dont? or are relationships that used to be strong now a little weaker?

just spit balling

or was it communicated internally that Nick would be the de facto guy after Bill so Matt and Josh are leaving? (would Nick hire some other coach?)

Wow you are easily impressed.
First drive 5 plays 13 yards.
Second drive. Impressive 95 yards TD drive.
Next 7 drives. 30 plays 49 yards
(Including a 3rd quarter of 3 drives for -15 yards)

Then a TD drive in garbage time against backups.

He was awful.

Josh should go to Tennessee, because that would let me root form him.

No.
Mcd was a serious candidate in Cleveland which he didn’t want to go to for obvious reasons and SF which depending upon which version you believe they chose shanahan instead, or the owners dysfunction (and firing back to back coaches after one year) scared him off.
Nothing to read in between the lines here.

From a QB standpoint you are correct but I was talking about the franchises as a whole. The teams I mentioned on that list do not stay longer periods away from winning and thats important. The pressure for results is bigger as a consequence.
