Are we ignoring the recent Guerrero news?

It's complicated.

1. All of these guys have trainers/advisers outside the team. Being a supreme professional athlete is a day-in, day-out, every day of the year commitment. If the teams say "so long, see you again at OTAs", of course they are going to seek out trainers and facilities to keep themselves at the top.

2. It's understandable that the team wants to have a clear line of command. But I'd be much more impressed if I thought that the Patriots had an outstanding record of sports science and medicine. Not just the lamentable injury record, but the idea that running up a few hills is the way to keep athletes' stamina up for the end of a season. Compared with other top-level sports that's just primitive.

3. The East-versus-West conflict is simplistic. Sure, Guerrero has embraced stuff that rightly got him into trouble. But the record of Western methods for athletic training and sports injuries isn't perfect by any means. It sounds (see, say, Curran's old article from 2015 -- Curran: Who is Alex Guerrero? Here's what I know . . . ) as though Guerrero has some very good methods and ideas too.

Personally, I wish that BB brought in someone scientifically advanced and open-minded to re-visit old assumptions and re-structure training and rehabilitation according to the best evidence. I'm afraid he's too "old school" to embrace that.

Here’s the truth.

Guerrero training method works great for the average joe. But when the talking about a football player, Oline/dline, linebackers, TE it’s not ideal. Those guys need to be big, strong and explosive.

What's obviously true is that everyone has different needs -- average Joes, people with injuries to rehabilitate, the elderly, and every different type of performance athlete. I would be very disappointed (and surprised) if Guerrero used the same method exclusively for everyone he worked with. According to the story I read, it was McGinest who first brought him into the Pats' circle, by the way.

True, but even when it "works"

Does drinking extra water mean that you don't ever need sunscreen?

Does sprinkling in a little magic dust into your water ward off inflammation, cancer, CTE, and the heartbreak of psoriasis?

Does it also rid your body of toxins?

Does it adjust your body's pH?

I am sure that many of the guy's ideas are great: healthy food, stretching, resistance training...

but he also very frequently goes down into the goofy deep end of the woo pool.

Bertrand is a joke.. he got his career boost from being on Dipshit and Spaz.. And he has copied their exact model of being a contrarian and getting people wound up

I use to love that show when it was Gresh and Zolak.. Gresh could tell it like it is without being an obnoxious troll and wasn't a homer by any means

This whole shtick that all these radio personalities are doing is just getting so old... it's ruined sports radio for me, I never listen to it anymore except for maybe dave and holly, and they can be a bit dull/boring at times

It's the continued dumbing down of society, so I will take my ball and go home before I engage in it or give them any ratings/money

I find myself tuning in every now and then to both 93.7 and 98.5, but I quickly shut them up, just like Curt Minihan screams at the callers to do.

Sports talk has come a long way (down) since The Sports Huddle days.

Is there any doubt why BB hates the media and all things that distract from the game on Sunday? For cripes sake, can't we have a run up to the playoffs that talks about all the good things going for our team? No, we have to talk about some butthead that was given a lot of privileges by the team, overstepped his bounds, got tossed by BB and now it has to be blown into the biggest mountain out of a molehill that we have ever seen. BB hates Brady! BB wanted to keep Garappollo. Kraft overruled him and now he is taking it out on Brady through his guru (the theory being spouted right now by the biggest media buffoon ever, Gary Tanguay)! This is the beginning of the end of the relationship between BB and Brady! Oy, I hate this stuff.

We are going for the No. 1 seed and HFA in the playoffs; an 8th trip (!!!!!!) to the Superbowl in the last 16 years and our 6th ring! Please focus on that, not this garbage. Listen to BB.

It could be worse, like it was in 2003-2004 when the Pats were setting the longest winning streak in NYFL history and finishing off a 3 out of 4 SB run. Back then all we heard was "the Sox are going after A-Rod"

Jesus...

This has absolutely nothing to do with Brady/JG but is simply about hierarchy. Like Curran said on QuickSlants you can't have players ignoring/second guessing what Moses C. and other strength and conditioning coaches are saying because of Guerrero. If players want to work with him on their own then good for them but first and foremost they have to follow the instructions set by the Patriots coaches and trainers.

Reiss said something similar on NFL Live. He said he said seen AG in the locker room twice this week. Also, that the sense he got was that players are encouraged to do other things outside work for their health, but that the Pats training staff has should be their first contact for anything in their domain.

most alternative medicines = unproven money-making schemes run by quacks, CEOs who laugh on their yachts as their bottles of sugar pills, magic water, and other worthless junk fly off the shelves at CVS and Walgreens. where they now have their own SECTION.

Greedy charlatans control everything.

People have to wake up and realize they ought to trust clinically-tested science-based medicine over voodoo woo.

I don't think @sambam94 was referring to the medicines themselves, but rather the approach to treating these health issues.

Generally speaking, western medicine, or maybe more accurately, *American* medicine, treats the symptoms of the disorder once it manifests. There are far fewer resources devoted to the prevention of these health issues to begin with.

Look at obesity, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, etc.

We can argue over the merits of the specific medicines being prescribed, and I do agree that many "alternative" medicines lack scientific research and merit -- but I think that's missing the point. The ultimate goal should be preventing these health issues from occurring. Should these health issues occur, then we get to treatment, which should not be limited to medications exclusively. Lifestyle changes need to occur, too.

I tend to think when it comes to issues like type II diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc, the medications prescribed should be short-term solutions designed to temporarily sustain the person and minimize symptoms. Essentially, a small part of an overall treatment plan that should be aimed at recovery, not maintenance. Any reasonable doctor will tell you that a healthy diet and adequate exercise are the best solutions to the aforementioned health issues, and the lack of an ideal diet and exercise regimen is the primary cause of the aforementioned issues.

To discuss strictly the medication(s) is to miss the point, in my opinion. To be clear, however, I agree with your sentiment that some alternative medicines lack scientific research and merit, and are peddled by people who are not interested in your health, but rather your money.

With regard to the latter part of my statement, "peddled by people who are not interested in your health, but rather your money", I think the same could be said for many doctors and pharmaceutical companies who distribute clinically reviewed and approved drugs, too.

Things are pretty obvious.. we dont need some idiotic conspiracy theories here.

But there is a conspiracy. 31 other teams and the Commissioner of the NFL hate the Patriots and spew about how much they hate Patriots fans. Dan Shaughnessy is the Steve Bannon of the conspiracy. The Globe is his Breitbart. Stories are planted to weaken our resolve. It is vast and well-funded.

This Alex Guerrero guy is a plant. They've taken a page out of Belichick's book. He put Welker on the Broncos, Vinatieri on the Colts, Revis back to the Jets, Vereen to the Giants, Woodhead to the Ravens - nothing but chaos and destruction ensued. The Guerrero thing is having its desired effect. We're sniping at one another. Brady hates his coach. Belichick is retaliating. Pack only what you need and be ready.

Bedard had some more information on this on Boston Sports Journal.

It's been building up for awhile.

Guerrero has become more and more intrusive as he's started treating more players.

He's treating around 20 players now, and ordering them not to follow the training staff orders if he disagrees with them. For example, one player was supposed to do squats and Guerrero ordered him not to. This has pissed off the training/medical staff.

BB tried to speak to him about having everybody on the team on the same page, and Guerrero gave a different account that put Bellichick in a very bad light.

Some people at Gillette are referring to 'Yoko Guerrero'.

This country would lose hundreds of billions of dollars if people lived healthy lifestyles and avoided things that were bad for them

A certain subset of the population would financially suffer (pharmaceutical companies, their employees, and doctors).

Or, depending on how you look at it, this country would save hundreds of billions of dollars in healthcare costs if people lived healthier lifestyles and avoided things that were bad for them.

I've read more that I want to about this soap opera but this is believable to me.

Guerrero is so righteous and invested in his goofy theraputics he is incapable of collaboration and quick to dismiss different methods .

If also true he is also a ****ty businessman. Think about it. His partner is Brady. He has an "in" to every single NFL player and franchise. Hes been helping the GOAT and the dynasty stay healthy. Every NFL team potentially wants what he does for them. All he needs to do is be cool with team doctors and trainers. What does he do? He locks horns with BB and undermines his staff.

Moron.

I don't see the savings. It's one big cycle.

Healthcare companies , insurance, lawyers, hospitals, care facilities, etc all lose revenue. That results in loss tax revenue as I don't see enough jobs and other industries making up for it.

It seems like kellerman thinks belichick did this because of any future problems like link to steroids. He probably thinks Brady's on something. Talking about kellerman. I mean i never liked brady getting this guy to be his partner. Any link to steroids would destroy his career literally although I doubt brady ever used that stuff. He doesn't need it. His head never grew twice the size of forehead Manning.

I assume there would be simply be a decline in income for those working in health maintenance, be it the doctors, nurses, insurers, etc.

Nothing wrong with that, and if you look at the relative income of doctors in Europe, they make considerably less money than American doctors because the cost of healthcare is lower for a multitude of reasons.

I have a hard time reasoning that the status quo should remain the same (Americans should continue to live unbelievably unhealthy lifestyles) simply to maintain the economic lucrativeness of the healthcare industry.

I do not support the status quo at all. Just stating what I think would happen.

I want the healthcare system in this country blown apart and rebuilt. It's madness right now and a big swamp full of waste and greed

Like the pharmaceutical industry that pushes doctors to prescribe medicines with more side effects than effectiveness? There's no doubt [IMO] that there are natural herbs and exercises that are more beneficial than some medicines which scre up yourbody chemistry, but the pharmaceutical industry can't patent them andjack the price up.
