Malcolm Mitchell

You should work on your reading comprehension. As I already explained, he is trending towards finding himself off this roster. That is how he is trending. Not that he is currently a bust. He will not be here if he cannot stay on the field.

So Malcolm Mitchell done for the season? Or can he still return?

Either one of he or Valentine can return, but neither have begun practicing yet. We’ll know more about it in the coming week or two.

Marty B and our RB's eliminates Mitchell: VV is needed now the D needs some help.

He played in 14 games last year and has been on IR so far this year. How is he trending anywhere ? Is he trending the wrong direction because he didnt play a game this year ? Like Edelman ?
Edelman has obviously a far more substantial body of work on which to detect trends than does Mitchell. We should have a fair idea how well Edelman will perform when he returns next season; we currently have no idea how well Mitchell will perform when, or if, he returns this season or whenever.

If we don't hear anything about Mitchell the next 3 weeks than he likely will not come back this season. That sucks cause he could help as well in the intermediate routes. Hogan and cooks can be our deep play guys.

As much as it kills me to say this, be prepared to acknowledge that we have seen the last of an All-Pro calibre player in Julian Edelman. By OTAs he'll be 32 and coming off an ACL that'll be a tough comeback. I don't see him targeted 150 times a season anymore. With that said a WR2 or WR3 role is very much in reach

With that said, hes one of the last people on earth I would bet against.

Both MM and VV would improve the team if healthy. We don't know the health of either of course. The fact that VV is eligible to return to practice and has not could be a sign that either he is not physically cleared to return or he is able but the spot has not been awarded to him yet, holding out a chance for Mitchell to return. In the meantime, they are getting additional information on Dorsett and Francois so as to better gauge how they might fair without either player. While I believe that MM is the better player, my personal guess is that the difference between VV and Francois is greater than the difference between MM and Dorsett, but who knows.

Could be a sign they will wait extra long before using/wasting the last return desig.
After the last IR-Return debacle, you wait til the guy is as fit as a fiddle (or both) and then decide.

RJF played 11 snaps last night (in relief of Branch and/or Guy) and came up with a couple tackles. More than I expected out of him, and a bit more than probably a lot of such guys might produce. He seemed to perform at least as well as Anthony Johnson and Woody Hamilton did in limited action last season.

If RJF didn't have any missed tackles that didn't show up on the broadcast, maybe he's enough to to keep VV on IR after Brown comes back - which might open the door a bit wider for Mitchell.

It's likely quite a bit easier to find a decent reserve/relief DT who can contribute right away than it would be to find a WR who can pick up the offensive system.

I keep going back and forth with this. I wish we still had two IR-Return designations remaining.
Me too. On one hand i love MM and what he brongs to the table for this offense but on the other, with the offense clicking right now and maybe Dorsett gaining more trust from Brady i would actually consider to activate VV the better and more needed move. We need some bodies in the middle to keep everyone fresh.

That's why the Marty B pick up is so Huge he helps two positions. He bolsters our TE position and with the use of three TE's that means less WR's on the field which keeps them fresh. We could go with the current dept chart at WR minus Mitchell. We have to allocate the extra Body to the D. Before Marty B I would have said Offense now with his addition as Will Smith say in the Fresh Prince of Bell Air Hell No!

MITCHELL
I agree that we are waiting to make the decision, presumably after the Oakland game.

I would note that we had THREE receivers who improved our options
1) Dorsett is well able to be our 2nd outside receiver.
2) Bennett is a fine additional target.
3) Allen is OK as a designated blocker and RZ threat.

The NEED for Mitchell is much less than it was a week ago.

As additional information, Brown is still out.

...how many times has Brady gone to a 4th round ROOKIE in those situations. The lad is good.

Malcom Mitchell was the first rookie to catch a pass from Tom Brady in *any* of the 7 Super Bowls. And he caught 5 in the 4th quarter.

He's a bust?

HAHAHAHAHAHSGSFGFHNJM!

Regards,
Chris

Wes Welker (henceforth known as "The Receiver") caught 86 passes for 848 yards the year after he was injured in Houston on the last game of the 2009 regular season, though I admit that the Receiver was 3 years younger in 2010 (29) than Edelman will be in 2018 (32). It still wouldn't surprise to see similar production from Edelman next season.

That, and perhaps waiting to get the best possible sense of roster needs. Right now they're roughly equally thin at DT and WR, but two weeks from now the situation could look different.

You're making a big assumption that Bennett will last the season.
