one is worth activating.
These players may be potential future players, but the defensive backs are clearly not active roster ready. And this isn't for a lack of trying. Belichick has had a lot of defensive backs on the Practice Squad roster.
BOTTOM LINE
We usually have 8-9 defensive backs active for a game, including STO players. This week, we don't even have a Practice Squad player capable of being number #8 defensive back, never mind having one better than Ebner as a defensive back.
Well, I didn't intend for "potentially" to apply to all of those players as "immediately ready".
Also, who gets released/waived in order to promote a Lewis or a Travis for one game as a depth guy?
I don't know. I'm sure that Belichick has several players that are ready to be cut if a roster spot is needed because of injury.
The fact that we have no one good enough is not an issue, but only because we won the game. The defense gave up over 300 yards to one of the worst teams in football.
First of all, thank you for dragging me out of the scrum of the Post-game Thread.
Secondly, I'm not so sure that BB has anyone who HE thought could reasonably be cut for this game.
He also may have thought that it wasn't necessary. Given who appeared to be responsible for the blown coverages today, I'm not sure that bringing another guy up from the PS would've made a positive difference, ready or not.
The defense actually gave up over 400 yards to a (surprisingly) 3-2 Jets team led by the first QB they've had in years who isn't a complete eff-up. McCown made some Brady-level completions into very good coverage today.
Anyway, I'm not willing to concede that the DBs on the PS aren't "good enough" for an emergency reserve spot on the AR simply because BB chose not to call one up for this particular game at the last minute.
harris?
More important was the fact that Belichick was OK to start Bademosi. We then had Jones as a backup at corner, in addition to him being available in the slot (along with Harmon). With Bademosi as a starting CB, we had 7 players (including Richards) able to perform all the normal defensive sets. Of course, their efficiency is still nowhere good enough.
Ideally, we could get WR Riley McCarron up to speed quickly. He would be exactly what the offense is missing without our beloved squirrel. Assuming he could get in sync with Brady. It would allow Brady to get rid of the ball quicky again.
I love his skill set.
If his nickname is "The Chipmunk" I'm all in on this move.
Damn are they talking about that new rule again where the team with the most yards win?I don't know. I'm sure that Belichick has several players that are ready to be cut if a roster spot is needed because of injury.

Anyway, perhaps it's not so much that none of Wiltz, Lewis, Jones and Travis on the PS are "good enough", but that we're underestimating how good the backup DBs on the Pats' AR actually are?
Seriously?...Also, who gets released/waived in order to promote a Lewis or a Travis for one game as a depth guy?
something to monitor..
