Because its a little perplexing how he lead in waiver claims yet a trade even for a conditional pick wasn't consummated.
No it isn't.

Hopefully its about Hamilton (and Kilgo already gone)
Beavers adds more intrigue on the Fleming front though.. (really hope its about Ferentz but he is G/T..
Hamilton was waived injured and went on IR

Willie Beavers, T, Western Michigan, 5.48 (mm 4) 6040 324, Three-year starter who’s athletic enough to play the left side in the pros. Good burst off the snap, and has the ability to get into space to block screens that the Patriots love. Beavers is just what I’m looking for with the Pats in this draft and he should be available to them if they feel the same.

Beavers was selected 9 picks after the Pats took Mitchell.

By my count, the Pats only had the 1 PS spot open.

Today they IRed McClellin and Signed Bolden.,
They Released Kilgo and signed DeMarcus Ayers.
They also signed Beavers and Blackson. There should be a corresponding move that hasn't been reported.

According to Miquel, Willie Beavers signing didn't process today.. And will be for a ROSTER spot.

If the nine PS players were there at practice, then someone has been cut, waived, traded or moved to IR. For obvious reasons, Valentine and Fleming are two possibilities.

Interesting w Beavers . has name on the locker

Maybe Hamilton comes back later in the season..

I'm still wondering about the Pats signing a PS QB this year, if only to help limit the throws Brady has to make in practise over the course of the year, and to help with the scout team.

So who is out there that can come in an fill that roll as well as protentially be a guy the Pats want to develop long term as a back up?

Are you saying the Return from IR is different than the PUP now. So they can decide to activate McClellin for the super bowl? There's no window after 8 weeks where they have to decide whether to permanently leave him on IR?
I read that somewhere, but it was on a site like SB Nation, Fansided, etc. Don't consider that gospel truth. I should have clarified.

I found this from the NFL league offices, and saw nothing about an 8-week window once a player is place on IR; just the three-week window once he begins practicing.

Interesting to note that the player must be designated for return prior to his return to practice. In other words that means IR's player cannot practice, and then the team makes a decision later. I was incorrect in the comment above in that regard and will edit that line.

Logically it would make sense that a player with a 10-week injury could stay on IR for ten weeks, practice for two weeks and then return. However, this is the NFL that we are talking about. I can't find anything from the NFL that definitively states that this can - or cannot - be done.

I'm not positive if the underlined portion below means that there is strictly a three week window (or strictly a 3-6 week window?) that begins after six weeks on IR, or if it is only referring to the minimum time frame.

2017-18 Important NFL Dates | NFL Football Operations

Beginning on the sixth calendar day prior to a club’s seventh regular season game (including any bye week) clubs are permitted to begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform and Reserve/Non-Football Injury or Illness who are for a period not to exceed 21 days. Players may be activated during the 21-day practice period, or prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day period, provided that no player may be activated to participate in a Week Six game.

At any time after six weeks have elapsed since a player was placed on Reserve/Injured or Reserve/Non-Football Injury/Illness, each club is permitted to designate two players for return from either list to the Club’s 53-player Active/Inactive List.

A player who is “Designated For Return” must have suffered a major football-related injury or non-football-related injury or illness after reporting to training camp and must have been placed on the applicable Reserve List after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day after the final roster reduction.

A player whom the Club wishes to designate for return is permitted to return to practice for a period not to exceed 21 days. The Club is required to notify the League office that the player has been “Designated For Return” on the first day the player begins to practice. The player cannot be returned to the Active/Inactive List until eight weeks have elapsed since the date he was placed on Reserve.

I was thinking that they would want a third QB on the practice squad simply due to the need for a QB on the scout team in practices.

The season is young.

Trevor Bates was released to make room for Willie Beavers.

The Angelo Blackson pick-up is interesting.
He's been listed as a DE at 6-4 318. That's because he came from a 3-4 system, and he's a DE the same way Ty Warren was a DE.

Look at Lawrence Guy and Adam Butler.
Guy is 6-4 305 and Butler is 6-4 293. Pretty prototypical 3-4 DE size.
That's three players who fit the 3-4 DE profile.

Trey Flowers, Cassius Marsh, Donte Hightower could all play OLD in a 3-4 system.
So the defense looks more 'multiple' than it did last season.

Its damn intriguing.

Its not like the guy was a bust or a UFA. 4th rd pick. He played 25% of the D snaps at TN. A few fans down there thought he was going to break out this year. This guy is an NFL caliber player. Decent rotational guy.

To your point they sure look like they want to play some serious 3-3-5.

Minnesota thought beavers was lousy. A lousy bum of a 4th round pick.

They would have kept him if his last name was "Gophers."

There are rules for the PUPpies, too. IIRC, somewhere between Week 7 and Week 12, you get to start a three-week window for the player where he can practice but not play. By the end of that three-week window, that player must either be activated or placed on PUP for the remainder of the season.

So McClellin could be activated as late as Week 14 or 15, but not during the postseason.

Just to confuse these issues a bit more, there's this from Miguel today ...
