% chance Goodell shows up.

This. He'll have a photo op somewhere in the bowels of Gillette with his buddy Bob, and some pre-recorded BS with the announcers and/or NFL Network, but they'll never show him on the Jumbotron, will hide him away in some untouchable suite, and he'll come out the next day and say he had "no problems" at Gillette, and that the fans he saw (i.e. Bob Kraft) were "gracious" and "welcoming" or some clap trap. Hopefully that will be belied by the myriad of clown shirts and noses in the audience, and the loud chants of, "Where is Roger?" during the game. F him. I hope he has a miserable time, although he'll never in a million years admit it.
Man, it takes a lot to make PatsDeb do a grouchy post.

He'll be there for sure. Kraft and he have patched up. I am sorry if you guys haven't observed this already. Kraft has said on multiple occasions that Goodell got bad advice (effectively blaming the Jets loving staff under him). I am sure Goodell has privately apologized to Kraft saying that he got bad advice and his hand was forced etc.

Personally I think Kraft and Goodell have privately patched up but there won't be any public admissions since I am sure BB and the Pats players and Pats fans are still super upset and Kraft can't really say anything to the contrary without pissing people off.

I did notice Kraft quickly left the stage when in the parade Gronk started a "boooo" cheer against Goodell.

So yeah I think Kraft and Goodell have patched up. Goodell will make a quiet out-of-the-spotlight appearance in the opening game and quietly sneak back out. All arranged by Kraft.

"Patched up"? You're kidding. They've been bosom buddies all along. I've said it a million times: pay attention to what Bob DOES, not what he SAYS.

I think we win regardless of what happens
  1. He shows up and is publicly viewable then we get to show our full appreciate for him
  2. He is at thew stadium, but not really seen by the public and we get to call him out for being cowardly
  3. He doesn't show up at all and the media gets to join in on the fun
unless
  • The only way he could really not show up and not get heckled is if there really is a family emergency.

Best case for him is to stop whining and take his lumps like a man. It's what he is paid to do and after not coming here for the AFCCG and doubling down on the Falcons, he's under the spotlight.

100000% will be there and they better put him on the jumbotron. Or not because people may throw things...I know i would lose my voice on that alone

I know we have experience with our football team's owner and twisted thinking, but really, this takes a world-renowned psychologist to sort out.

If I presented the litany of transgressions by the NFL in the sixties, he would respond, "The Sullivans are bad owners and I'm going to do it right!"

Thanks for the rings, but I never thought I'd reminisce fondly about Charles O. Finley.

"...my good friend Roger was ethically compelled to impose unprecedented punishments on us because our coach, he...he...knowingly broke the rules! I totally trust what Roger says over anything my mean unfriendly head coach says or thinks. I...I'm so, so sorry that we damaged the league with our reckless cheating."

So this guy has learned nothing the last ten years?

So how shall we mark the tenth anniversary coming up in September of "We're the NFL and we're just going to make it official that the Patriots cheat, and that's why they win." Kraft's about as likely to put up a banner of Belichick on a tower as he is to honor the 1976 team or restore Pat Patriot.

This guy's dying words will be, "I...I love Drew Bledsoe...and I love Roger Goodell...and I love the flying elvis...and I hate Billy Sullivan"

I think he might find an excuse to not come - say his child is sick or he has to negotiate with China or a game or whatever. I say he's 50% likely and the clown nose story wa a trial balloon.

Yeah,I maybe nuts, but we are talking a guy with an ego so big the pizza story and stuff makes sense.

The sick child excuse is a good one. That's the same one Mark Wahlberg used to explain why he left the SB early.

I'll be ready, just in case...

How about drugging him and he pisses and poops his pants?

It would only take 1 motivated joker...

Just saying... jury nullification. The man is an attractive nuisance and idiot behavior, while not condonable, is understandable. "Fan" is short for "fanatic" and we can not reasonably expect reasonable behavior from "fanatics."

I quoted the wrong post and am too lazy to go back and get the right one. I'll defend Bob Kraft for accepting Roger's excuse that his hands were tied.

I'll accept it because his hands were tied - he could have tried harder to untie himself, but he really was bound. The problem was the other 31 owners. (Or 30 and Green Bay stockholders, whatever.)

Goodell had been commish for just over a year before FakeGate I in September, 2007. Although he was disliked by all the players, his only major previous move - of course, a terrible one - was shutting down NFL Europe that June.

If he wasn't a lackey who caves to every evil whim of the owners no matter how insane or incompetent he and those under him are, he wouldn't have been elected in the first place.

As for Kraft, his priorities are:

1. Be "better" than Billy Sullivan

2. See 1.

3. See 1.

Maybe Bob really does, as he says, care about reputation and good name.

Of the league, not his team.

He will show up, and early on in the broadcast (probably the pre-show) Al Michaels will be on the screen saying something like "Goodell is here and doesn't want to appear on TV to distract from this great night of football, blah, blah, blah"

Kraft will put him in a suite that nobody will know about and he will make sure to be out of any possible sight lines of fans and he will try to sneak out at halftime and it will be foiled by a fans cell phone camera.

You are a nicer person than I am.

I don't accept his hands were tied at all.

He had a choice. He chose to not do the right thing.

yeah..well, I got Goondell's perfect "box" seat right here...have a seat ,Rog ol' pal...

Someone should start a go fund me effort to rent a blimp with a blinking sign on the side.. "Deflate this".. along with a few billboards on the way to the stadium..

As others have pointed out, the airspace over any NFL game is closed and secured by military aircraft. So, any blimp heading in the direction of Gillette will get one or two warnings to turn around, be buzzed by a couple of F-16's and then truly be "deflated" courtesy of the United States Air Force.

Billboards are nice, but I doubt very much that Goodell will arrive by anything but a helicopter (cleared into the airspace) from Providence or Logan and then be driven from the chopper into the stadium.

He will show up and then hide or leave. He wasn't happy with the boo's at the super bowl. Wait unitl he hears what 70,000 Pats fan's can come up with.
