Mike Reiss recently reported that Amendola & Hawkins will probably battle it out for the final WR Spot.

I have mixed emotions on this battle. Amendola has been clutch in big games, but he is also hurt a lot & not overly productive in the regular season.

Hawkins is a speedy slot receiver who may bring better special teams value.

I have to admit, I am glad Belichick is the one making the final decision.

Ironically many fans here think amendola has earned the right to stay while Brady should be dumped.

Hawkins hasent really had more production than DA especially given his opportunities. Also, Hawkins barely plays special teams while DA is an elite special team player who lead the league in punt returns just 2 years ago.

How does Hawkins bring more special team value????

Well the good news is, Belichick is the guy making the final decision.

Belichick makes his decision on what is best for the team going forward.
He does not make his roster choices based on what they have done in the past.

Not many coaches would have had the guts or brains to stick with Brady when Bledsoe got healthy in 2001.

Speed & durability !

If they were going to get rid of Amendola they never should have had him take a huge paycut, they should have released him and let him move on.

I'm sure people are really saying that.
Read the board.
There are MANY people saying Brady should be cut, traded, or retire so that the team can be turned over to JAG.

the consensus of this board is the timetable should be Brady only stays as long as he can to not lose JAG instead of Brady stats as long as he is capable of playing near his current level.

Hawkins would seem to be a signing of a good player for insurance against injury. But if all stay healthy, we will have a numbers issue at the position. Amendola does make some big catches but his snaps have to be so limited that he is not reliable depth if others get hurt. We amped his workload when Edelman was hurt, and he got hurt the next week vs Buffalo.

It's an interesting issue.
You don't need the #5 at all until there are injuries. So what attributes are most important?

There are a number who would part with Brady if we won the SB this coming year.

Probably so, at least from Amendola's viewpoint. One of the dangers of signing a low dollar contract is it makes you easy to cut.

Last 3 years games played:
Hawkins 39
Amendola 42

wrong again

You should stick with Hockey.
How are Slaters special team stats?

Hawkins was a legend in the CFL for his special team skills.
Unless you don't thinks Belichick values open field tackling skills.

That CFL field is a lot bigger than the NFL field.
When was the last time Amendola made an open field tackle?

There are more to special teams than kick returns.
Unless you think Amendola is a better special team player than Slater.

Let me know when Amendola has made open field tackles like this guy?

When is the last time Hawkins made huge plays to help win two Super Bowls?

LMAO!

Lets not even get into the dozens of other huge and clutch plays DA has made over the past 5 years.

You lost the specials team battle, so now your moving on?

I am sure glad Belichick is deciding who makes the team.

If guys like you were picking the roster, Chris Slade & Lawyer Milloy would still be playing for the Pat's.

He hasn't had a chance to play with Brady yet. If Brady can make a JAG like Amendola & Hogan look good, then Hawkins is in a a good situation.
