Also absolutely love how a bunch of people had James White as a cut and he just continues to make big plays in the passing game. Ya let's get rid of that guy....
It's too bad he's awful as a runner, because he is pretty good catching the ball.

Cam and Derby took out the DE and OLB together on a combo block, BTW Karras not Shaq was at RG.

Karras is my new binkie. I love having Mongo's nephew at guard. Brings back some of that mean streak missing since Mankins was traded.

Too many missing pieces last night to make a good evaluation of where the Offense will be in Arizona....

Good to see production from some unexpected sources......

Have a feeling this team will be fine until TB returns.....

We shall see

The real surprise yesterday to me was Humber.
I was intrigued when BB brought him in early in FA because i didn't think it was a position of need. Most had him as a TC body. Everything was pretty quiet about him since. But yesterday he looked impressive and was on the field from start (ST) to end (LB). Hope he sticks around.
I disagree. I think a small linebacker like a Don Davis or Dane fletcher is indeed a position of need for this team. I do agree on Humber's performance though, he looked fast out there.

I didn't say he sucked, I said he was unimpressive. Dobson was playing against 2nd and 3rd string corners and didn't seem to make much of an impact. Sure, 3 catches....2 quick outs and caught a short pass over the middle. Good, I am happy he looked good in those 3 instances.

Mitchel caught 4 balls and looked like the real deal, Dobson looked like a JAG. That is my opinion.
Dobson actually went against the better competition and let's not forget that the offense didn't accomplish much as a whole during his time, and the o line certainly wasn't going to give him the time to get deep so no surprise his catches were in the shorter range. It's definitely fair to say he didn't set the world on fire but he was good

The defensive line is pretty good, but the defensive backs need to step up their game big time, I don't want us to have to score a boat load of points to keep up. Flowers seems to be promising, he is quick on the feet and very strong.

It's a pre-season game with the Defense playing vanilla. You can't expect the DBs to be lights out and the hidden coverages to be used..

I believe he did not have a catch until the twos were in the game.

And yet he is still the second best back on our team. People seem to pass over the fact that he was one of the few healthy offensive pieces holding us together late last season.

To me he was always a lock...I was pretty surprised when people were talking about him potentially being a cut.

Turning into RB instead of at least sliding was just irresponsible and BB was red on the screen.

Belichick was wondering whether he should get the thumbscrews or the electric shock machine ready for the locker room. How hard it must be for him when one of his players does something immature or boneheaded.

JG made some apologetic comment after the game that he got carried away.

Its their job to impress or they get cut. Simple.

Some thoughts before I have to go to work:
  • Garoppolo didn't look great but didn't look terrible. Brissett, too. The former obviously faced better defenses than the latter, but I think we took our 1s out way after the Saints did, so I don't even know if JG has that going for him. I can't believe some of you spent so much time ****ting on Brissett before we even got to see him play (looking at you, Kontra).
I watched Brissett play in college and was speaking on what I saw of him. You and the other guy clearly didn't. That's why you both got wrecked so badly on that debate.

Overall that game gets a B- from me, enough good things and the W for fans to be optimistic and happy but just enough bad things for BB to be happy he gets teaching material. The defense looked awesome, 4 turnovers with 2 of them taken back for scores. Fast athletic playmakers on all 3 levels with pretty good depth. I am excited about the d more then the offense and that's saying something cuz the potential is there to be a top 5 all time scoring unit. That pick la'blanc had was one of the sickest catches I have ever seen. I hope Trey flowers gets starters reps cuz he looks legit and I want to see it against other starting units not the back up OT.
Both QB's had up and down nights where they started slow but as the game went on they started to look better. Jimmy G was exactly what I expected decent overall but no Tom Brady. I think he can do enough to win 3/4 during the reg season. Top 20 qb on a team this stacked will still win a lot of games. Brisset was also hit and miss good and bad. Those 2 balls he forced early should have been picked and he locked on to his first read far too often. He is a rookie playing in a complex offense so he gets a pass on those from me. The good made me think of Big Ben tall big strong hard to take down with an absolute rocket of an arm. Some of those balls hummed down the field. Very fun and exciting to watch and I am quite curious where he will end up in 2-3 years cuz I feel he could be Very good. Still has a lot of work to do but from all accounts he is a motivated good guy. All in all quite pleased with where the team is at. Oh yeah and WHEEEEW on mitchell! He looked EXACTLY like the 2014 branden lafell kind of WR this team desperately needs to be completely unstoppable. Get well soon and come on back cuz you looked great!

I'm pretty sure he'll make the team, but as a /running/ back, he's closer to the worst on the team. He hasn't met a guy he can make miss yet.

I was actually impressed with Brisset (The Brisket). He has a great arm, there was one pass late in the game were he overthrew Lucien deep in the corner of the end zone. Good coverage by the D on that, but he put it the only place he could, no chance for the INT. I found myself thinking, Brady AND Jimmy would've underthrown that and it would have been an INT. No offense to either, but neither has an arm like Brisset, if Jimmy did, he would've been the first QB picked in his draft year.

Now I'm not comparing him to either, he's nowhere near as good as either, but he can make throws neither QB can. I can see why the Pat's brass liked him. For his FIRST NFL exhibition game ever, I thought he played quite well. His negatives are, just from my limited viewing, he seems to have a long windup/slow release, and of course he was locking on to his primary target which is what most rookies do.

Really liked what I saw from Derby, made some excellent catches. I'm actually hoping he makes it over Harbor.

I really think Thuney is the closest to our old friend Mankins as far as mean streak.

I had the same takeway. IIRC it was the 1st qtr and on one of the running plays Thuney totally flatted a dude away from the play a good 1/2 a second after the whistle blew.

It doesn't necessarily mean he is nasty and he second coming of Conrad Dobler but finishing your blocks hard is something I don't think this team did often last year. With Scar in charge they will do that and Thuney has zero problem with it.

…and athleticism, much more so than Karras. Thuney is better-suited for LG, while Karras is better-suited for RG.

Yes, indeed. Thuney is likely to start at LG, the position that he has had since the first day of Practice.

Karras could make the team if Cooper doesn't come back soon.

Don't know too much about him but Karras seems like a street brawler to me. If he can play with a lot of smarts and a little mobility and in-line strength he might make it tough for Cooper to stick.
