I'm listening to these calls on the postgame show and these calls are ridiculous. The general tone is a lot of folks are down on Jimmy G. That's not what bothers me so much as the reasons why. Lol

They're up on Brisscuit though. Mmmm, biscuits.
Garropolo hasn't really changed my mind on what I've thought of him all along. He seems to have improved incrementally but I think he has been a bit overhyped. I think he can be a serviceable backup for a few games but have always felt a bit skeptical about him.

I hope I'm wrong and that the kid has a good career ahead of him, I'm just not convinced yet.

Brissett played OK among the bottom of the depth charts. Better than Garropolo? No. A few awful throws but he did come across as confident in the pocket...evaded pressure. I'm not liking Garropolo trying to avoid the sack, dropping back fifteen more yards in the process and getting tackled anyhow.

Also was a little alarmed by that throw off his back foot. Hopefully we don't see more of that.

True. Like I said, it's not that they're down on him that made me roll my eyes. It was some of the reasons why. They were asinine...a lot if them.

Some examples?

All fair.

Wish you'd have asked me an hour or so ago. I remember one of them being something to the effect of he wasn't putting the ball between the numbers on every throw. Another was how Jacoby was reading the D much better and had a better chemistry with the receivers than Jimmy. A few of the calls completely downplayed the good and overly emphasized some of the legit flaws.

I love biscuits but there must not be a lot of Jewish mothers in your life..

Because "Brisscuit" is literally a homonym for brisket.

Got it, thanks.

Some good, some bad seems to be the way I'd describe his performance, so I can see people at both ends of the spectrum on how they graded him out.

Somewhere in the B- to C+ range for me, although I actually may feel the same way about Brissett's performance too (different measuring sticks, of course).

Definitely a reminder that things will be much different in the post-Brady era and that it may be more of a challenge to get through the first 4 games at .500 than some expected. That said, I look forward to seeing him in a couple of weeks with an improved cast of weapons surrounding him.

I agree with these thoughts. Good stuff.

I can't speak for him, but I'm guessing that the thought is that hopes for Cooper were on the higher end, thus placing him directly in the mix to see playing time. Some feel (not me) that he was actually the favorite to start on day one.

As far as the Mason vs. Jackson matchup--Shaq Mason has clearly been the better OL, not to mention healthier, too.

Blunt can run with power if he wants to dance fine but for the love of god keep him off the field on third down.

I don't know. I mean yeah he shows up for about 4-5 games but I wish TG would just take the job.

I have described Blount as far back as his Tampa days as a "power back that doesn't run with power". Hes more of a big body back who can fall forward.

There are a bunch in this year's draft we can take it suppose.

I'm actually hoping both guys sit and season some more behind the scenes in favor of Stork moving to LG and Thuney at RG. That way both our guys (Stork & Andrews) will play.

Certainly a possibility that has crossed my mind before, although then you'd have to try and determine who to place at LG and who to place at RG. While your idea of having Stork at LG makes a lot of sense, one may argue that Thuney is doing a pretty good job thus far, and is deserving of that LG position.

I know that this may not be a terribly popular option with you, but it's also possible that Stork keeps his starting role and that they use Kline's versatility as a backup guard/center. I hate to be the one to ask with a stickied thread at the top of our page, but would Andrews have any remaining PS eligibility left? I'm guessing that he may, although getting him through would be another question.

Any way you look at it, the interior battle for the C/G spots will likely be the most intriguing positional battle over the next few weeks. Perhaps they keep both and just have Andrews (or Stork) as a pure backup for center, but that doesn't sound too much like Belichick to me.

at the end of the game, the last five minutes...if you heard a bellowing voice screaming."call another time out ,coach!" from behind the Saints bench, well, that was me. It's 80 degrees with 90% humidity and THIS azzole, Payton, is coaching like it's the final seconds of a tied Super Bowl. Jeezus krist ,give it a break will ya, Sean. I'm sitting there scraping dirt off my skin from the ****in' air quality of an open sewer and THIS "genius" just has to drag the freakin' game, which is well over, out to the very bitter end. Preseason game one!! C'mon..look, NO McCown has ever led ANYTHING anywhere in the history of the entire human race.Jeezus krist.."we gotta give Luke one more chance to make two scores in under 4 minutes!!!!" said no sober human being EVER!

I notice everyone in this thread has already gone into great depth discussing J.G.'s "performance". In person I'll tell you all how I felt after the first half...we'll be LUCKY to be 2-2 when TB gets back.I'll qualify this by admitting it's only the first preseason game, but right now, JG looks like...uh...well...Luke McCown.

The O line looks identical to last season...they got NO push, they make no holes, they get outmuscled on the LOS and they protect in an average way.Solder is the softest HUGE guy I've ever seen. He's a giant but he plays like he's a ballerina.

Yeah, Joker, but I'd give him a pass considering it was his first live action since about midseason last season.
