Official Preseason ( Week 1) Gameday Thread: Saints @ Patriots

Grissom does contain well. That's a positive I suppose. Discipline.

This year they don't have to designate until they reactivate him. So they can wait until mid season to decide.

It's a subtle rule change, but it actually changes the dynamic significantly. Most of the time we think of a Shane Vereen 2013 event for short-term IR --broken hand after week 1, 8 week recovery time, use it on him. But most of the time it's not that cut and dry; often you get the Vicente Sciancoe 2012 scenario.

I think this will cause a shift away from the use of short-term IR on borderline injury guys - those guys will just continue to be game day inactives on the 53. Instead it will be used on the long-term guys, hoping they can come back but being able to plan around it if they don't. As an extreme example, had this been in place last year, Stork may have just been game-day inactivated until given the clear on the concussion protocol. While Edelman might have been instantly IRed, with the hope of being able to use the short-term designation in the playoffs but have someone else on the roster instead if he wasn't ready.

I'd let dobson keep mitchell's roster spot warm until mitchell is healthy, but no more. Mitchell looked great tonight before going down. I hope it is relatively minor, and he has some deer antler spray at the ready, as well as a fall wife for the hgh shipment.

Brissett is already better than Mallett or Hoyer ever was. Garropolo better make some huge improvements because Brissett's game clearly has some ceiling to it.

Mallett yes (although he's shown flashes in BAL), Hoyer no. Hoyer was solid and most criticism of him prior to the 4 INT playoff meltdown was absurd and unfounded.

Brissett has been nice and confident which is nice to see. He could certainly be playing a lot worse.
Yes. And I understand he's probably playing against mostly 3rd stringers, but he probably is playing with that too. I think overall he's seems better than Grop.... Oh no, did I just say that??? Duck

Hope not. It stunts growth too much.
Might stunt one player, but let the team keep another they'd otherwise lose. What's best for the team, not just what's best for one player.

Let's not go that far. Brissett is playing amongst third stringers, and he had a couple bad throws early on.

Accuracy was clearly an issue for Brisset tonight...as well as reads. That 1st series, ugly.

Phelps is about to be on again BTW

semifinal not for gold btw.

I think what we're seeing with the qb's is Jimmy trying to do the right thing, be like Tom and make the right reads, and getting a little nervous Vs. Jacoby just doing his thing, rock and firing w/ the big arm, trying to make plays. And of course they played against different levels of competition. This made Jacoby seem like more fun to watch

I seem to be in a minority here but Gaffney hasn't looked impressive at all. Only gets yards when there's a huge hole.

Stays low at contact, falls forward. He didn't tap dance in the backfield once. Meanwhile, blount, who weighs 250, is upright and sidestepping with one guy in front of him at the Los. I've had enough of the Maroney bs in the backfield from a 260 lb rb. PUT YOUR ****ING SHOULDER DOWN AND DRIVE GOD d%#*!@t, NOT A JUMP STEP AND LOSE 2 YARDS ON 3RD AND 1.

Okay so looks like phelps was a little weak but should qualify. Almost got first in the race.
