We are a Butler twisted ankle away from being worse than 2011.
At corner possibly, but our safety situation is much stronger. And has that happened to Butler yet?

Keenan Lewis would make sense but i doubt very much that the saints wanna move him. His contract's team friendly right now.

Disagree. We have a much better safety core right now, and it isn't even close. We could move Dmac to cb, and start Harmon at the FS spot and we still have a much better secondary as a whole. And that's not even talking about the whole defense where the front 7 is much better by far

you're jumping waaaay too far hear. Is it an issue? Yes, but let's not act like we're in dire straits here with our situation. This isn't 2011 here.

I bet Weeden wishes it was 2011 . That season our secondary was generating better contract possibilities for QBs like Weeden. Yet we made it to the SB too. We must have really revved up the gatorade heaters and radio jammers that season

I think we even let Tyler Palko nearly throw for 300 yards that year...

That DL with the exception of Vince was basically a bunch of old guys and the LB corp had 1 good 3-down LB in Mayo.

Wonder if Harmon could play corner. That could help.

DMac cannot play corner, his 1st season was an aberration.

How we could get to the SB with that porous secondary is a 'huh?' -- though I will say BB had them playing markedly better by the time the POs started. But that was painful watching that secondary routinely give up 3 and long first downs. We literally were the opportunity for an 'at best backup QB' to make a quick name for himself.

Brown hasn't played much recently anyway and the defense has done fairly well. He's good, and definitely our second best CB, but we should be ok for now. Hopefully he can recover quickly though.

We are banking heavily on Malcolm Butler being healthy....

How many teams are not banking heavily on their #1 CB being healthy? While others teams may have more bodies at CB, the quality of the CB group goes precipitously down if the #1 is lost.

Depth everywhere is all but impossible in the NFL. Strikingly, the Patriots are deep in quite a few areas -- CB not being one of them. So if Butler gets hurt (hopefully he won't) we will have to do what every team does when crucial injuries hit: open up the list of on the market availables, see what if anything can be done in trade, tweak scheme when possible, hope an unknown breaks out, pray.

It's going to be our old friend Eli not Arron in the SB.

i know we all think the colts suck but luck is capable of picking a bad secondary to pieces..
if im the colts i spread us out attack the secondary. logan ryan/coleman and melvin seriously???
by far the weakest area on our team

hope brown can go

-Butler Island on Moncrief
-Take out Hilton with Ryan/McCourty just as we've done all the time with Arrington/McCourty
-Coleman on Johnson

Let Andre Johnson prove he doesn't suck with Luck.

It's obviously the Pats' primary area of concern, so of course losing the best player from the current group would be bad. No reason to automatically go there though.

Brown is a talented CB and has been battling a chronic foot injury for several weeks before landing on IR with the Raiders and requiring surgery. Surgery on the foot of a skill player who has to make sharp cuts and the fact that it still bothers him is not a good thing. The signing of Melvin makes me think there could be some doubt about Brown returning to health.

I agree that he isn't that good of a corner, even if he's very good in situational man coverage as a safety closet to the line. But what I'm saying is that even with him at corner, which is not a good move in my opinion, we would have a better secondary than we had in 2011. I put that down because it's kind of my worst case adjustment scenario in case Butler went down. If Dmac stays at safety our secondary is much better than in 2011, even without Butler. Much because Dmac really limits the offenses ability to go deep. With Dmac out Harmons plays the FS spot much better than anyone we had in 2011.
