Dealing with addiction is a very tricky thing, unless I knew if he’d actually hit rock bottom and how much he was willing to change I wouldn’t want to use a 7th round pick on him. That would mean him agreeing to a restructured contract with no money guaranteed and also being on a 0 strikes program.

If he did that I’d give the Jags a conditional late round pick for 2015.

That is a fair response.
I agree. Like I said Cris Carter was the same.

I've seen Blackmon personally at the bars several times around here. Some times, he's dead sober and is drinking water. Other times, he's been absolutely obliterated. When he first moved here, I saw him drunkenly stumble into his car, peel out, and drive off.

He has to want to be sober. I expect that is his job to get reinstated. Great talent.

Sorry for not reading the first 2 pages (80 posts), but I voted for Minitron.
Without him, Brady would have Absolute Zero targets in whom he trusts, and for Brady,
it's all about trust.

In a pinch, Connolly can move to Center (his best position anyway), and Cannon to RG.
Besides, it's past time that Bill start drafting our interior OL of the future.

A potential Blackmon trade is interesting. He would be a top 10 WR with Brady. His contract is very reasonable and he still has two years left on his rookie deal.

I don’t actually think he would be, Brady is great at many things but he is not known for his ability to propel WRs into stardom. If Blackmon came in and did everything right, learned the offense and worked his ass off then yeah Brady could take him the rest of the way but if he didn’t do those things Brady would just throw the ball to someone else and be done with him.

I also think Blackmon is grossly overrated as a talent, his workout numbers were not anything special:

Justin Blackmon
• Dates: 03/09/12
• Height: 6007
• Weight: 207
• 40 Yrd Dash: 4.46
• 20 Yrd Dash: 2.60
• 10 Yrd Dash: 1.53
• 225 Lb. Bench Reps:
• Vertical Jump: 35
• Broad Jump: 10'03"
• 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.38
• 3-Cone Drill: 7.13

Kenbrell Thompkins
• Height: 6005
• Weight: 193
• 40 Yrd Dash: 4.46
• 20 Yrd Dash: 2.55
• 10 Yrd Dash: 1.56
• 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 08
• Vertical Jump: 33 1/2
• Broad Jump: 10'01"
• 20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.21
• 3-Cone Drill: 6.88

Thompkins an UDFA has similar athletic talents.

All the athletic ability in the world doesn't matter if you can't catch the ball, and Thompkins has issues with that.

Athletics are over-rated, football skills and character become much more important once a guy has a certain level of athletic ability. Jerry Rice apparently ran a 4.7 in the 40 but he ran perfect routes, he knew how to get open and also when to get open. His work ethic was legendary.

I love Jules, but Mack by a mile. Interior pressure is Tom's kryptonite. Center is a priority for upgrade this year. This is the "biggest no-brainer in the history of earth".

looking back at our recent big game losses you look at two major points of contention.

1.) secondary play, once talib gets taken out vs denver and vs the ravens, both teams light it up

2.) we end up playing against elite defensive lines, and brady gets lit up.

Brady was sacked almost instantly a few times vs denver, all of which killed drives and took points off the board. we could have had calvin johnson in the afccg it wouldn't have mattered brady had maybe 2 seconds 3 on play action.

We need to shore up the o line

and we need our number 1 db to be made out of steel

Oh jesus is this a real post... if only football was played on the track. Ignoring his addiction issues, Blackmon has proven himself a scary WR1-caliber talent in the NFL, he had 30 catches for 415 yards in 4 games this season playing for the Jaguars. Thompkins will be lucky to make the team next year - he doesn't get open and can't catch. He was undrafted for a reason.

Of course, Blackmon also may never step foot on an NFL field again, so there's that.

And the answer to the poll is Alex Mack. Not even close.

I said he is overrated as a talent with regards to his athletic ability. Which he is.

I don't disagree at all, I was just pointing out the Blackmon is overrated in regards to his perceived athletic talents.

Are people gushing over him for his athletics or his abilities and potential as a player?

This was a tough one for me because I love Edelman, but teams usually win in the NFL by imposing their will in the trenches. Mack would upgrade the center position and kick Wendell (if resigned) back to a key reserve role. Perhaps the improved protection would create much cleaner pockets for Brady to operate in, and his deep passing accuracy may improve over the last couple of seasons.

Edelman's departure would leave a hole, but ideally one of or all of Dobson, Thompkins, and Boyce make second year jumps that mitigate the loss.

I'm not sure generally they go hand-and-hand.

Not necessarily, as I mentioned Jerry Rice wasn't a great athlete. Plenty of incredible athletes don't cut it as football players.

Bravo. We clearly failed at that task in the 2007 and 2011 SBs and the 2012 and 2013 AFCCGs. All 4 games shared another common feature ... we lost.

how about we talk about his actual talents, things we can see via game stats.

The kid puts up good numbers with blaine gabbert and whats his face that used to start for the dolphins.

I think the point your "troll pets" were making is that your argument is stupid.

or as car people would say when you start talking cars "oh you read the brochure?"

seeing a list of specs means jack ****, the only thing that matters is live performance, Blackmon has it. Its a shame hes mentally unstable.

I pointed out that Blackmon is not an athletic freak. He is very good when on the field but that is reliant on his attributes and technique which given his mental makeup aren't a given. A player like Randy Moss possessed the type of physical gifts that even when he was a head case he was still something teams had to fear and prepare for; personally I don't think Blackmon offers that.

I should not of made the "pet troll" remark and edited it out. Prime is a good poster, he has a tendency to disagree with many of my posts but he is not a troll, and I apologize to him for putting him on blast it was reactive and unnecessary.

I am not disagreeing. The point I'm trying to make is that Blackmon has to be with the program in order to excel; he doesn't have the type of physical gifts that allow him to go out and dominate on talent alone.

Drinking aside, what's he like as a person?

Cousin, My point is Blackmon is a far superior talent to Dobson, Kendrick or Boyce. He is only 24. He might be a fit if they loose Edelman and put Amendola or even Moe in the slot. Talents the Lord gives you mean nothing if you don't apply them, so it is on him.

But........

Would we want to enter another baby sitting venue?

Would the Jags take a low end pick?

It would be a financial win for the Pats and money toward Mack(who I think the Browns Franchise anyway so this might be a moot Thread)

The kid has a Cris Carter drinking problem. Carter overcame it to be in the Hall of Fame. It can happen. Perhaps a new venue for the kid? We can't save them all here but the Pats are better than most.

His QB tandem was the worst in the NFL. This is talent. These are not gifts?
7 catches a game at a 14.3 average before the suspension in 2013?

Games Catches Targets Yards YPC Long TDS
2012 16 64 133 865 13.5 81 5

2013 4 29 48 415 14.3 67 1
