talent-wise Fryar and Glenn are superior to JE11.

The reality is if Welker makes the catch vs the Giants he has more votes than Jules....but he didn't.

4. Troy Brown
(epitome of Pats all-rounder /Horatio Alger archetype; but not necessarily a top receiver only. He was Jules-clutch before Jules supplanted him. )
5. Wes Welker
( Loses clutch points for turning the wrong way on „the catch“; ….for me he also loses ‚Patriots Way“ points for his anti-BB/anti-Pats bias in his later career years; but he was a great slot wr).

Welker is getting some short shrift here... I think people have forgotten he was a pass catching machine while he was here, or are outright omitting it... 5 out of his 6 seasons he had 100+ receptions... he piled up the yards as well... almost 7500 receiving yards in under 100 games... if he was here from the onset, and didn't waste his first three years in Miami who had no clue about his abilities, he would have topped 10k yards easily... The best wr we have had in New England imo... and if you want to knock him for the drop in 42, just remember he was the only reason we even moved the ball that game... maroney had what, 30 yards? WW had 11 receptions, over 100 yards... Moss had half that production... so if you are going to knock him, at least put it in the perspective of his overall body of work in that game...

Moss was probably the "best" overall wr the Pats ever had, but he was a short timer... but still, i don't think anyone will ever forget the 23 in 07... that was amazing... such a talented guy.

Morgan was the best of the old school wr's on the pats... amazing what he accomplished with the game the way it was back then... and to do it primarily with steve grogan at qb? I think Grogan was a good qb, but remember, he only topped 2500 passing yards twice in his career... which makes what Morgan did even more impressive... that 78 79 80 run of averaging 20+ yards a reception is off the hook great... has that even been topped today? he really should be in the HoF... and just a tip of the cap here to round it all out... If you are going old school, I would add a special mention for Jim Colclough... He would be Stanley Morgans 1B for me... Not a HoF player, but would be in the Hall of Very Good Players if there was one...

Ahh... Sweet Feet. Helluva Patriot and had himself a clutch game for the ages on the biggest stage



We can go back and forth on WR's Pats career, all time, clutch etc but one play for all the marbles and Sweet Feet is probably the guy Brady would be looking for

Marshall Faulk and LT are the two best I can think of.

Other than those two I honestly think White is as close to as good a pass catching RB as the league as has ever seen.

Obviously McCaffrey is up there and the better all around player and just as good catching.

Similar for Bears Matt Forte.

I'm sure there's plenty others I'm overlooking. But those are the 5 best I can think of off the top of my head. And White was not nearly the rusher the other 4 were but just receiving man was he great.

Going back a few years but Roger Craig, Larry Centers, Walter Payton, and Marcus Allen were also elite receivers out of the backfield.

All NFL Moss crushes Morgan but this is as Patriot WRs and in that you cant argue with 10k yards at 19.8 yards a pop. I voted Stanley. Slot is between Welker and Eldenut, love me both of these guys and it was a hard decision but Welker's number just dwarf Eldeman everywhere but the playoffs. I think peoples memorys are tainted by the playoffs and remember Jules being that good year round. He wasnt. He was a good, maybe even very good wr2 on a team with Gronk most of the time and only was a star WR in the playoffs. Give me Welker for slot. Last spot i'll admit to a little personal bias. For this one i want an all around football player, a guy who does a little bit of everything. Troy Brown versus Eldeman. Again i love me some Eldenut and the fact that he is 1b at two positions is no small feat but Troy Brown is my favorite player ever.

It was interesting looking up the all-time Patriots WR stats, and seeing the three WRs with the most games played for the Patriots are Troy Brown (192), Stanley Morgan (180), and Gino Cappelletti (153).

Welker's numbers in regular season are better than Jules but I'm not sure why you're holding Gronk against Jules but not Welker. Actually Welker first had Moss then he had Gronknandez.

For one they arent just a little better, they are WR1 versus WR2 levels better. Secondly, yes Welker had Moss but realistically it was only 2007 where Moss went absolutely ham and opened the field for everyone. Gronk didnt come on until 2011 (his rookie year wasnt great) so in those 4 years inbetween what did Welker do? I dont have the exact numbers but isnt he the only player to catch 120+ passes 6 years in a row? Dude was a first down machine, like rooting for the house in blackjack. You just knew on 3rd and 7 he was catching a 6 yard out and wiggling for 2 yards of YAC. Welker gets way too much hate for one pass, that i am not convinced Brady threw poorly, while Eldeman gets way too much love for l turning it up to 11 for just 3 games a year. Love both guys and Jules would be the 4th guy id take but for the slot position its not even particularly close.

What’s the criteria here?

Production? Production is most often the result of environment. Welker has the most inflated numbers because he played the most with Brady in his prime and received the most quality targets. Troy Brown only played with early 2000’s game manager Tom. I’d still take Brown or Edelman over Welker all day.

Talent? Randy Moss on one side, Irving Fryer or Stanley Morgan on the other and Deion Branch in the slot.

Moss is the 2nd best WR in NFL history. I get some posters here are too young to know Morgan or Fryer but Morgan’s yards per reception still ranks tenth all time in NFL history, he was a deep ball threat. Irving Fryer was a first overall pick, he still ranks 22nd all time in receiving yards. Why is he less regarded? He played for the Pats when they were a league doormat, they had no QB. Morgan and Fryer also played in an era where you could die or be paralyzed going over the middle. Deion Branch had a short career marred by injury, having said that he was supremely talented. He had better agility than Brown, Welker or Edelman… he was an impossible cover in short space. But he also had 4.4 speed which none of these other slot guys had. Brandin Cooks isn’t even mentioned?

If you’re just going by production or nostalgia, the typical names obviously pop up, mostly dynasty names because of recency bias. But if you were building an All-Time team and wanted to compete against other teams best you’d want the best players to matchup against other teams All-Time defenders.
