One list of cuts still outstanding are the cuts from the Giants. We might find a DL there.
Marvin Austin perhaps?

I judge a player based on what I see, not what incompetent teams like the Cowboys and Chiefs do.
Also, I don't know how anyone can be satisfied with the offensive line depth either. Kline was not good this pre-season other than the occasional showing in the running game.
This may be a quarterback league but as of right now - the depth on the offensive and defensive line has to be questioned.
This situations of the offensive and defensive lines are quite different.
OFFENSIVE LINE
We have 2 backups at TACKLE (Cannon and Svitek), and GUARD (also Cannon and Svitek). we have 2 backups at CENTER (Connolly and Kline). The only weakness is in the backup to the backup, the inactive 8th OL, Kline. All the rest are capable of starting.
I do agree that Kline as the 2nd backup at center is a weakness. However, it is a minor weakness.
DEFENSIVE LINE
Our DE backups (Bequette and Buchanan) are weak and inexperienced. Our DT backups are virtually non-existent (Vellano). This is a critical need.

.... and Francis had his whole season in one game against a team that was already on vacation.
Our DE backups are no worse than last year. Cunningham did nothing at DE (although he was effective at DT in the sub) Trevor Scott stunk, and Francis had his whole season in one game against a team that was already on vacation.
Inexperienced is not a big concern to me with backup DEs. Weak, I disagree with, they just don't have recognizable names or pasts that can make you feel better than you should about their present.
DT depth doesn't exist, but who was the last good backup DT we had?
At least the new starter can play all downs.
I don't think our season will be determined by the play of the jags we have at backup DT, like every other year.
I agree that we are GREATLY improved at DT. We now have two awesome starters with no backups. I agree that Kelly is a great improvement over Love.
I agree that we had poor DT backups last year (except for Cunningham in sub packages). So, we had Brace/Forston and Deaderick. Now we have Vellano and whoever Belichick signs this week.
Isn;'t the reality that one of our weaknesses last year was the lack of adequate DT backups.
Again, wasn't our goal improvement in DT backup? Surely, we might have done better than Vellano and no one.
BB has Gerard "Methusaleh" Warren on speed dial.
and also Brace
Wow yes. Definitely worth a look. We have the leaders to keep him in line.
I can totally respect your thoughts on not being satisfied with Mallett's progression so far--even though I don't personally agree on the same exact level.
The problem is that it'd be very difficult to expect another QB candidate (aside from maybe Hoyer in my opinion) that would be able to step in and contribute for this particular season.
Like I said, I'd be more than satisfied with bringing in another developmental QB to compete with Mallett and potentially take over for next season, but for this season I think we have to stick with Mallett--like it or not.
