I don't think this instance was ever about being cheap.

Time to move on, I think we can all agree Waters won't be a Patriot this year.

Me neither. I know a lot of people did, though. Didn't help that the Herald, I believe, originally reported that the Pats wanted Waters to take a pay cut, as opposed to a salary cut but with large per-game bonuses.

I think maybe the team did not give Waters what he wanted earlier in the year and now he sees the line is a mess and doesn't want to give them another chance to come begging for his services now.

Let him be.....we move on.

re: Brian Waters turned down "significant" pay raise

yup he is done. They probably offered a good amount of $$ too...sucks

Move on people.

If reported as true then it should be interesting to see the total of Waters' fines come the end of the season.

"You're finished. Fertig! Verfallen! Verlumpt! Verblunget! Verkackt! "

Call me spiteful, but I'd have preferred a new, younger guy to coach up anyway.

Throwing in old Vets to fix problems is usually a bad idea.

That's about the only consolation prize that we have to look forward to, but I will admit that I am curious.

If he doesn't want a significant pay raise, then what does he want? He can forget about them cutting him or trading him to Texas if that's what it is.

Sometimes, even more money won't get it done. Can we stop blaming Belichick for being cheap, now?

(This one's for you, ATipp)
If the report is true, I have given up all hope for Brian Waters.

Dan Connolly better heal fast!

The Herald would never print something false about the Patriots - oh, never mind...

That leaves way too much unanswered for us to make a fair appraisal. "Last ditch effort", for example, could very easily be seen as "too little, too late". "Significant" is another word/phrase that's often looked at as much more "significant" to one party than the other. The "significant" offer made by the NHL to the NHL players is a pretty good example of that.

My uneducated take on this is that the saga continues because both the Patriots and Waters are open to his joining the team at a later date, like the second half of the season, or just for the postseason run, should that happen.

I think Waters wants a ring, but has "enough" money and is tired of the NFL grind, so if the Pats "need" him to slog through the full season, they'd better pony up.

Slipped right out without addressing the Belichick being cheap comment, didn't you?
