Default Big Baby Davis - Your Opinion?

Lost in all the sports news is Big baby staying a Celtic is becoming more and more a possibility every day.

the Celtics are ??? interested in Marquis Daniels and would match ??? any offer to Baby of @ $5 million.

A sign and trade of Baby is also being rumored.

Rondo - R.Allen - Pierce - Garnett - Perkins

Pruitt(PG) - E.House(SG) - Daniels(SF) - Big Baby(PF) - Wallace(C)

......................or.......................... .
Pruitt(PG) - House(SG) - Daniels(SF) - Wallace(PF) - Big Baby(C)

.....................or........................... ..
House(PG) - Daniels(SG) - Big Baby(SF) - Scal(PF) - Wallace(C)

I started this thread really to open discussion more than anything.

Those really following the Celtics in the forums what do you think here?

I like Big Baby. He stepped up when Garnett went down, plus, he's improved every year and still has a good upside. If signed, he'd be the second big man off the bench. Works for me.
The team I worry about signing him is the Mavericks, who tend to overspend.

i like the baby also. he plays hard and has shown consistent improvement. hopefully the Celtic's can keep him at a reasonable price.

Am I crazy to think he could end up being a SF in the league?
Word is he has lost more weight and that jumper was good ... what if it gets better?
He'll probably never be able to create his own shot(jumper) ... but off the bench he could be an offensive weapon perhaps?

I think Baby solidifies Celtic basketball. He's tough, Hardnosed, Team Player and Good player. Like everyone has said he has continually improved and seems to make big shots or get that big rebound at key moments. He is young, has the body and can play in this league for a while so hopefully the Celts keep him. I love the acquisitions of Daniels, and Wallace now just keep baby with house and pruitt and that second team would be sick. I wish Marbury would have stayed for less money but you knew that wasn't going to happen with his history. It looks like the Celts are going to be revamped and looking for another ring next season. SIGN BIG BABY!!!

I'm pretty mixed on Big Baby. Someone on Celticsblog did an excellent breakdown of how the team performs poorly when Big Baby is coming in at PF, and how they actually do better with him at C. I think he's far too small to play C, and in the long run, that's a poor solution. I like that he can hit the outside jumper, and he gives good effort, but he's not a $5 mill a year player. If I were the C's, I would not go out of my way to keep him, I would keep him on my [Ainge's] terms.

Dont get me wrong. Im thankful for what he accomplished here... BUT...

We got a guy that does what he does even BETTER now... Sheed. We dont need Big Baby. His weight issues will always be a problem.

I read Celtics year round and have never read where Big Baby's weight was a problem.
In all the news concerning BB's free agency there was never even a line concerning weight issues.

The issue with his weight is that teams feel like once he gets his deal he will be more inclined to slack off and let himself go.

Exactly. Open Checkbook... Open Menu.

He plays pretty graceful for a chubster. I'll give him that. But I just don’t see any reason for them to take an unnecessary chance on the guy. I’m pretty sure we've seen his peak potential last season. There are plenty of guys in the league (including ones they now have signed), who give you what baby gives you and then some.
