The other third round pick was spent on QB Kevin O'Connell of San Diego State (94th overall). Staying with defense, the Patriots took Auburn CB Jonathan Wilhite in the fourth round, UCLA S Matthew Slater in the fifth round, and Nebraska LB Bo Ruud in the sixth round. On Day One, the Patriots used the tenth pick to select LB Jerod Mayo from Tennessee. Mayo was a first-team SEC linebacker in 2007.
