How is quoting your own words a straw man?
Because you overreach on everything I write. At no time did I deny the team has been the best in the league or that Belichick doesn’t know what he’s doing, etc.
Here’s the thing, Andy. The Patriots themselves are the first to admit they aren’t perfect and their continuous quest to better themselves - the players, coaches, and personnel - is what makes them great. Even if they are the best organization in sports, that’s not to say that everything they do is the right decision. Belichick always talks about learning from mistakes and improving. Brady always talks about it. This isn’t lip service. They look at their decision making, their processes, their timing. They find within themselves many areas where they can improve.
YET on every decision the team makes, you are under the impression that they can’t make a mistake since they’re the Patriots, and there’s no organization that’s better, and whatever decision making process they used was the right one, since that process has led to their unprecedented success, although the truth is their formula and approach is always in flux and being fine tuned. You confuse the merit of individual decisions with the the overall leadership and conclude that if anyone disagrees with a single decision, or a series of decisions, they must think they would be better for the job, or that they don’t appreciate Belichick, or they are crazy because look at past results. That’s why almost everything you say becomes in a straw man. I’m glad the team team doesn’t think like that and encourages criticism and improvement in all areas. As Belichick always says, last year was last year. I’m clearly talking about how some of these questionable moves may impact the future in a negative way.
Have you ever been on the side of criticism and just acknowledge they made a mistake? One single time? Because that in itself shows how far away from reality and how homerish your takes are. The team would laugh at your takes, since they are hitting 1.000, if we were to look at how you evaluate their decisions.
The team is overall very good in personnel decisions but not other-worldly. Brady’s immense impact and amazing unselfishness allows them to get away with a lot. Their draft position year after year and the salary cap make what do downright impressive. But they are still “in the pack” with many other teams when it comes to player development and decisions. The other teams don’t have Tom Brady as a $15M quarterback or the best coach in league history. They do well with player development but they have a lot of leeway that other teams don’t and can better absorb mistakes.
