Why would you knowingly and boldly yell a racist term? Because other people said it is racist and shouldn't be used? And that has empowered you to feel the need to yell it? Again and again?

I don’t want to get into this, but here we go. The team was not named using a derogatory term. That doesn’t even make any sense. Redskins was not used that way. It was actually meant as a term of honor. It was named after Native American warriors wearing red paint into battle. At the time, the head coach and many of the players were in fact Native Americans.

That said, I get why it was time to change it. Too much misinformation.

interesting fact: they were originally the Boston Braves as they had a relationship with that baseball team. One year later, they then became associated with the Red Sox and part of the decision of the name had to do with staying similar with that team. The owner, though, wanted to keep the Indian theme to honor his coach and players. It’s all on record.
