FWIW I think Obi's ST value tends to be overestimated. For instance, in the championship game vs. KC, Obi played a whopping 3 snaps on teams, while Ebner played 26.

I'm not sure of the comparison as of today. Five years ago, I would choose JE.

Careful—some posters here are fully capable of proving that having an all-pro WR is in fact bad because they can produce a long list of all-pro WRs who haven’t won a super bowl.

Are you trolling, or just ignorant on how final cut downs work?

Just look at what happened to the Golden State Warriors last year. People were basically making the same type of "we are just fine without him" argument about Durant. It may be true that the Warriors appeared to not miss much of a beat against lesser competition, but it made a big difference against tougher teams, and eventually even the depth of four all-stars wasn't enough because of all the injuries. Point being, I can see why people might say they'd be better off spending 9-15M somewhere else on the roster; but it makes little sense to say they'd rather just not have AB on the roster because he'll make them worse.

Brown didn't return punts at all last year, Ryan Switzer did.
Brown was not the Steeler's primary punt return 2 years ago, Eli Rogers was.

I would leave PRs to Gunner, just due to investment/importance of both JE & AB

    Bingo.

The Pats did not risk losing Gunner.

    Thomas is a FA.

    He could have signed elsewhere.

You're deliberately being ridiculous in an attempt to extend a really lame troll attempt. By cutting Thomas, it avoided having any of the three players being subject to waivers.

Meyers - subject to waivers, and could have been picked by another team
Gunner - subject to waivers, and could have been picked by another team
Thomas - not subject to waivers, thus couldn't have been picked by another team

I know that you're smart enough to grasp the significance of that, because any human capable of posting on the internet is smart enough to grasp the significance of that.

    DT
    Obi
    Gunner
    Ebner

These are the guys I see as possible contenders to be the odd man out in the AB saga. Here's what I'd do and why at 4pm

    a. I release Lance Kendrick and go with Lacosse and Izzo at TE for the near future.

    b. I release Ebner and replace him with Brown. Since the first game has passed, Ebner's contract was guaranteed. Releasing him now doesn't affect his financial situation for this season. He doesn't hit waivers, and I don't see much of a market for him around the league. So essentially he sits home collects his cash and waits for the next injury that opens up the roster spot he needs to rejoin the team.

    c. You can use the exact same strategy with DT if you want.

    d. Gunner made a good case for keeping him as a PR, KR, and KCoverage guy. Since he's a WR, gunner would seem like the most likely cut for AB. I'm not sure its the case now. You'd HAVE to think someone would grab him after last night's performance.

    e. You know what I think about Obi. Hard to make a case for keeping him, except that he's injured and I'm an optimist. We shall see

Didn't say it was a bad thing. Just said that he would never be a difference maker here commensurate with his elite talent on a one year deal given the system. Sure Gordon could fall off the wagon (heaven forbid) but Brown's availability is hardly guaranteed either. Agree if he behaves he can add value but I don't think we actually need him and would be fine without him. I don't see the offensive philosophy here changing with him or without him on the roster.

If Ebner is cut, can't he sign somewhere else and still collect his patriot salary?

If Obi is injured, put him on IR.

Dorsett is 26. Only 26, and a seasoned vet.

Obi is good for one thing and that "nothing" he brings nothing to the current roster that would be missed.
