It came down to who they were most fine losing and who could potentially make it to the PS. Melifonwu who has been essentially in hiding definitely had a bigger shot than Gunner or Meyers.

I think it’s more like than not AB will make it to the end of the season than Gordon.

Yeah, he or Ebner made the most sense to me. Well, Obi won't be the first of my Binkies Bill has sent packing. Hoping against hope he makes it thru waivers. Unlikely though

You seem to see something in Obi that almost nobody else does. Maybe you are overvaluing him ?

He is so much more likely to make it through waivers than Gunner or Meyers at this point. He has done nothing in camp or preseason to stand out. Not saying it is unlikely someone else signs him but it is not like he gave anyone any reason since the draft.

Personally I would have preferred to let one of the WR go as we are way to deep there (with Harry and Meredith being around) but it is what it is.

Obi should make it to the practice squad.

    No question.

After the way Gunner handled the punting (returns and sure-handedness) and Meyers' big-boy catch and hanging on after getting rocked no way do those guys last the night out on the street.

Ditto for those of you hoping and waiting for Gunner's demise.

I haven't seen anyone hoping for Gunner's demise.

Very true. I doubt he is even on the radar of most teams.

Melifonwu was a street free agent for three weeks last season, free to sign with anyone. Since he was signed, he's done nothing of note. He played a handful of snaps in two games and had a quiet training camp and preseason. He was a healthy scratch yesterday. It seems unlikely that any team will be champing at the bit to add him to their active roster... and in the worst case, if they do, so what?

They've got a glut at wide receiver, but Slater and Olszewski are wide receivers in number only, and it's not like any of these tight ends are worth a damn until Watson comes back.

I never stated that Thomas was subject to waivers because he is a FA.

Keeping Thomas only exposed 1 player to be lost. 1 of 3 sounds dramatic and earth shattering, but only 1 roster spot was at stake.

The Pats were willing to risk losing Thomas, but not Gunner or Meyers. This has all been well documented.

They've got 3 games to either choose between LaCosse and Izzo, or to bring in another TE, before Watson's return.

There was no risk of losing Thomas
. The plan was for him to be cut, and brought back after required IR manipulations, in order to protect a waiver eligible player who would otherwise have been exposed. This has been well documented, as multiple reporters noted it.
