Somehow it's a liability that he has two coaches he's worked with before that were good enough coordinators to land head coaching jobs?

I keep hearing idiots in the media calling Patricia and Judge "failed coordinators" when they they were both excellent as coordinators even though they failed as head coaches.

This staff is *very* experienced.

Given his history of success in doing just that, I think the team will be pretty good

Vita Vea has stayed healthy and provides a massive push in pass rush, he was the 12th overall pick in the first round. Carl Davis is making the vet minimum… nice comparison though.

I already answered that above, he’s fragile. His snaps have to be managed. Also what’s with you people, where did I say Carl Davis was the next coming of Mean Joe Greene… I didn’t. I said he does one thing well, clog the interior and two gap… that he should play 10-12 snaps per game. I get that fans expect every player on the 53 man roster to be a pro bowler but in reality there are often role players who do a couple things well. He has been one of them, which is why they brought him back. He’s cheap and serves a purpose.

Your point was that in a passing league NT are hardly used or have few snaps so they come cheap. WRONG.

You think a game in which our defense held the second highest scoring offense in the league to 24 points is a good example?

Watch that play from the 0.47 mark again... on the first play who do the Chargers double team in the middle? It's Carl Davis, the big man.

The Patriot's D ranked 1st in the entire NFL in fewest rushing TD's allowed, they ranked 5th in 3rd down percentage, 2nd in redzone percentage...

They may not have been good at preventing rushing yards in the open field but they were good on short downs. The big men weren't the problem... it was the LB'ers and DE's. This is why they fired the entire LB unit except for Bentley.

you said he is a great run stopper and good athlete. I stated reasons why he isn't that. You can't say just because pats fans think different about Carl Davis being not a great run stopper and conclude by this that we expect every player on the 53 to be a pro bowl player. Everyone knows that there are back ups /specialists/situational role player on the roster, and we acknowledge that by admitting that they are not that great which isn't a bad thing. It happens, nobody critizes him for that, he just can be upgraded because he isn't as good as you make him to be.

Vita Vea played the 9th most snaps on Tampa's defense last year, he shoves two offensive lineman back into the opposing QB's face and provides pressure on every down, he doesn't come off the field... the only thing "wrong" is your comparison of Vita Vea to Davis... a guy making the vet minimum who plays 10-12 snaps per game.

I just provided the stats above...

You are violating the rules by using facts to support your position.

The problem on Defense in 2021 was two-fold: injuries late in the season (especially to Jones) and the diminished production from the veteran linebackers.

Belichick has certainly recognized the issue at LB, even if not enough for some posters. Other than Judon and Bentley, almost all the reps will be from those who were not major factors in the past. Belichick has spent considerable draft resources to draft 4 LB's in early rounds recently (in addition to Bentley). He has also acquired McMillan and Wilson.

Other areas may be very important to the success of the team. But the primary factor will be the play of the linebackers, especially since there is no longer a top secondary to bail them out. [I'm not complaining about the secondary. Belichick has done fine trying to make up for the loss of Jackson].

Finally, I don't see the major issue being defense against the run (and the ILB's). Bentley, McMillan and Wilson should be OK, with the probable addition of reps of one of the other LB's.

The question for the season will be the EDGE, the OL's and pass-rush. Judon plus who. Flowers would go a long way in solidifying this group. [And yes, I do expect something from Uche, as I used to expect something from Winovich; but we need more].
