Interesting concept. If you scheme guys open then you are kind of holding your QB’s hand. The basic play calling makes him read the field and make decisions. Doesn’t make for elite production but might be better for his long term development?

That’s definitely an optimistic POV though. It could also just be that AVP sucks.
One of the beat writers, maybe Kyles, not sure, mentioned a couple teams, I believe Bengals and one other that run a similar offense to AVP but they have the skill players to make it work. If AVP is staying past this year and this is his offense, then they need to get a Tee Higgins or a wr in the draft that might be a #1.
Mahomes is a good QB AND Reid schemes guys open more than anybody, that's the ideal scenario.
Brady and McDaniel's similar.
It's almost like AVP has trouble adjusting his scheme to the talent, he just has his scheme, regardless of talent.
For example, please give the LT help against Bosa, give the backup tackles help against Will Anderson.
Some wr's have trouble separating in man please run some stack plays and some more motion.
I think with the right skill players his offense can work with Maye, with the current cast it puts a ton more on Maye to make plays. The lack of taking the talent you have and maximizing it does not seem to be an AVP strength.
With all that said, I think he'd be good with the proper talent to work in his scheme, and its year 1of a rebuild so he does not have that yet.

I’d give up our second for Higgins

Peppers bull crap didn't help.

And Jonathan seems to have taken a step back.

But Gonzo is proving the hype and Marcus looks pretty good too.

I think the bigger problem and by a lot is the lack of a pass rush.
Jon Jones is still our #3, by far.

He's probably still ahead Marcus but those paths are real close to crossing. Those 3, White, and Dugger are probably our best defenders.

I would like to be wrong, but I expect a Jags victory. Our offense is inconsistent. AVP may be our weakest link. Defense has lost too many key players. AVP doesn't help the OT's at all. Jags remained in London, Pats are traveling and don't have a lot of leaders left. Name them. It seems like Mayo took ownership of the QB situation, now he needs to get involved with some direction to AVP. He can't continue to be hands off with the offense. They have several offensive coaches, but they don't seem effective.
Would love some insight on what the pulse is on guys like McAdoo, McCartney, and Hughes on offense. What are they adding, how are they encouraging development, etc. Probably not going to find it though. Obviously the media heads don’t really attempt to.

Maybe but don't overlook Godchaux and Jennings.
I almost edited to put Godchaux in there not so sure about Jennings. I hoped Jennings would take a bigger leap this year maybe it's everything else around him in the front 7 but I think he was better last year.

damn I'm gonna have to miss this one. No way I can watch football at 9:30AM. London game is stupid honestly.

Jennings has never been a sacks or pressure guy, but he sets the edge extremely well. It's another "team" vs "star" discussion. Teams need guys that can set the edge in the run game or the D will never get off the field because no defense can cover everything (well, maybe 85 Bears but I digress) you just want to limit the number of exploitable options and hope to match strength against weakness wherever possible.

We've had Pats teams that can't set the edge and that's as painful to watch as soft zone coverage

....and another six yard run on first down....

Wish we had two of him. A classic dependable contributor, not great but gets the job don.

I appreciate the optimism brother! I try to go into each game with a clean slate and hopes that something can click in an area of weakness and we see improvement. Its harder with each passing week. Football is a game of inches though and we’ve gotten alot of hard breaks recently, a little good fortune can go a long way.
Personally I've accepted with all the guys missing due to Injuries or off the field things. We aren't going to be a top defense. I mean could guys play better sure.. but we are relying on 2nd and 3rd string players to play beyond their talent level. However playing with more pride don't cost anything.

No we're not! that's a myth against a Stacked Offensive Team which the Jags should be. Gonzo on Tomas Jr I bet you Kirk and Gabe Davis go off not to mention TE's Engram and Strange.
To have any chance put Marcus on kirk, Jon on Gabe and gonzo on Thomas junior.. at some point the defense needs to show some pride.

I just saw this and found it incredibly funny

Great stuff, absolutely love cerrone battle very, very good sports talk guy and knows what he's talking about. Everything happens for a reason.. not signing Ridley, ayuik never wanted to leave SF.. I say continue grooming the young guys we have and go after the #1 in FA.. by then the league will know up front and personal who maye day is.

More notable that Stevenson wasn’t ruled out. He is going to London.
