With all the players the Pats have sick this week, this is the question some smart reporter SHOULD be asking him. "Bill, do you know how many of your players got their flu shots this fall?" And if the answer isn't "all of them", then we FINALLY have a detail that Bill DIDN'T get covered.

Really folks, in this day and age, if everyone had had their flu shots, then this wouldn't have happened. It could very well cost us a critical in conference game. Even if everyone is healthy enough to play (and that's not likely to happen) , the lack of coherent practice this week will HAVE to affect play.

Ken, you know football a helluva lot better than you know flu shots. Flu shots are developed each year by scientists guessing which type of flu will be prevalent and are subsequently nowhere near 100% (or even 50%) effective. I think I saw something to the effect that last years version was 19% effective.

Like I said before, if they got flu shots and still came down with it, then I'd have no problem with the result > You did all you could do. BUT, if they didn't all get their flu shots, then that's a detail that was missed that COULD have mitigated the effects of the flue.

All I want is that the question is asked. For example. "Bill, is it Patriots policy that everyone get a flu shot, or is it left up to them as individuals?"

And you seriously expect him to answer that question ?

If you really want an answer send a tweet to Reiss or Howe. Hell Chatham might even know what the policy is for players.

I don’t know for a fact, but I think it’s safe to assume that NFL players making millions of dollars who get their nutrition, recovery, rest, etc managed are required to receive an annual flu shot. After all, these players are getting some of the best medical care known to man.

I couldn’t find a definitive answer, but came across this article from Dr.David Chao, who states that flu shots are generally being given in all NFL training rooms, but that they can’t force the individual to do it if they don’t want to.

This illness points to my long time contention that teams can dress up to 53 players for each game.. as well as the practice squad players allowed to be called up situationally like they do in the minors in baseball..

It makes no sense to me that 53 players are eligible and only 46 can dress for each game + the practice squad.. the current ideas are antiquated and need change..

Sorry Ken, a rare disagreement from me here. The flu shot is 100% a guess as to the strain. Getting the shot (which everyone should do no question) may offer some protection in that your body will develop antibodies shortening the viral cycle and length of illness, but they may not be the antibodies to that particular viral pathology meaning no full immunity.

I'm willing to bet an NFL team not only has the shot, but probably before the general public. Too much money on the line.

The vaccine is not a guarantee of course, but if you still get sick, severity is usually reduced. Since 4/8 guys were only out for 1 day, it is possible that either they got the shot--so it wasn't as bad as flu usually is--or it isn't actually the flu (some other bug).

This game is gonna be sick!

Your sense of humor is infectious!
Hopefully NE comes to play and doesn’t rely on its’ ill-ustrious reputation in order to win on Sunday

I expect that most of our guys will end up playing.

The point is that the team coming down with some health issues immediately following the conditions of the Dallas game really shouldn't even have your mind leaning toward flu shots. It's a really odd leap to make, particularly since you made more than just a passing quip about it.

Flu shots and fluoride? Next you will be micro chipping your infants!

The Patriots are like a ham: They'll be fully cured.

One potentially problematic bit is that Van Noy was fine this week until he suddenly DNPd with “illness” yesterday.

Given that quite a few other players were DNP for 2-3 days before being able to practice again, I wonder what shape he’ll be in for tomorrow.

I expect him to be out.
