Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress will be released from prison on June 6th. Burress has served 21 months in prison for his accident two years ago.
For those of you who have forgotten why Burress was in prison in the first place, the star WR took an unregistered .40 caliber Glock pistol into a Manhattan club called the "Latin Quarter". His handgun slipped out of his waistband and slid down his leg. When he tried to catch it, he accidentally pulled the trigger, and in turn shot himself in the thigh.
As stupid as this may be, now the question that stands out around the league is, do you want Plaxico Burress on your team?
Personally, I do not care for the veteran receiver. I feel if the Patriots were to invest in a receiver at this point, he would need to fit the "burner" or "stretch the field" mold. Obviously, Belichick and company did not find the value in the draft at that position or did not deem it a necessary need.
The Patriots already have several veteran receivers such as Deion Branch and Wes Welker. Second year wide out Taylor Price, who essentially had a "red-shirt" season last year, could make a serious impact next season. Not to mention the dynamic group of tight-ends that the Patriots added to their arsenal a year ago in the draft.
Another route could be free agency or trading for a veteran player when the CBA is resolved. Is there a chance Chad OchoCinco might be targeted instead? How about Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith? At this point in the off season, teams are still scrambling for answers.
So the question remains, do you want Plaxico Burress on the Patriots? What would you like the team to do? I want to hear what Patriots Nation has to say about this! Share your thoughts with a comment below!
