Just like with kickers, the Patriots understand that having an ok kicker isn't ideal, they want the best kicker, the best punter, the best qb in the league. That is why they go out and spend a 5th on a kicker, last year they chose poorly, but that doesn't change the fact that they identified the player they wanted and were unafraid to spend what it took to go out and get him. I have to believe that it will be like that with the qb position. They already have 1-5 qb's targeted in the draft and unless JG is their man, and they can get him, I believe the Patriots will go and get that qb. Now if the only 2 they like are Lawrence and Wilson, or if they think Cam's complete suckage last season was because of covid or an injury and is fixable, or if they think Stidham really is good, then they will probably stay pat, and maybe take one of the later round qb's hoping to catch lighting in a bottle. But I still think unless they trade for Jimmy, they will trade into the top 10 to get Jones.

This is pretty hilarious. Someone who routinely argues 1 against 10, calling someone else a ****
Having an opinion that is against the grain is not a dlck. Personally insulting people because you have a different opinion is. It’s not that complicated.

San Fran paid a fortune to Jimmy G and now apparently doesn't want him. How are ya'll making sense of that so that the outcome is that he'll be good in NE but wasn't in SF? Curious.

Different system. Apparently Bill and josh still really like the payer and think he could perform here.

And these guys saw him for 3 years in the system. Sometimes a change of scenery is all a player needs.

Look at ryan Tannehill. Found a system that fits him perfectly.

Jimmy G and availability are a problem which is why i would not give even a second round pick for him. Bill’s in love with the guy so a second rounder is not out of the question.

I think our odds of trading up to get a top guy are dwindling by the day. Mike Reiss posted something similarly. Said there might not be anyone bill is "enamored with" available where they could trade up.

SF gave up alot for the chance to draft either Fields or Lance. I'm guessing that the Jets are taking Wilson (because this trade happened after Wilson's pro day and if they weren't sold on Wilson why wouldn't they make this trade).

The Jets could throw a monkey wrench in SF's plans if they trade out of #2.

Still its a bold move Cotton to spend that much draft capital and still have no assurances that the guy(s) you want will be there, or that no one can jump ahead of you.

They know that only Lawrence and one of fields, Wilson, Lance, Jones will be gone. They trade up for whoever of the 2 they want the jets don’t take.

Not sure how you connect Wilson pro day and the 49ers making a trade to what the jets will do.

So niners are taking Fields at 3.
Question is Lance worth 3 first round picks the answer should be a resounding no.

But is Jones worth 2 first round picks. And who says Bill is enamored with JimmyG. He may well be, but I think we have a tendency to believe what the media tells us, and I am pretty sure Bill doesn't spend much of his day telling the media what he thinks.

I look at it this way: every draft pick is a lottery pick. There’s no such thing as a sure thing. Ron Dayne was a sure thing but never came close to being the guy we saw when he broke the record for most rushing yards in a college career. Rick Mirer was a sure thing at quarterback but never panned out. But then you have guys like Patrick Mahomes, who fell all the way to 10th overall because scouts questioned his throwing mechanics, his decision-making, and whether or not he’d adjust to a pro style offense, and he’s someone any franchise would gladly give up 3 first rounders for today. If you believe the guy you’re going after is special then why not take the chance. You just better be right because it’s high stakes gambling because it will either pay off big or cost you dearly. Trey Lance is the type of talent that I can understand why a team might make the gamble, because he has all the attributes of a special talent, he just lacks experience and will need time to learn. You pay that sort of price if you can afford to be patient, but not if you need a rookie to start right away.

Idk at the same time who are we to discount all the reports that Bill still thinks highly of Jimmy, texts him all the time.

This team almost seems tailor made for Jimmy G. How did the niners get to the Superbowl in 2019? A tenacious defense and an offense with a strong OL/running game and passing game focused on the tight end spot. Almost seems similar to what the Patriots are building.

Now. Jimmy isn't my first choice (a top drafted QB would be) but I think he's the most realistic option now.

Nope we shouldn't have. And we didn't so it makes no difference.
We need a qb desperately. That’s what they cost. The alternative is crap like newton.

We do need a QB, but your desperation to pay anything and the way Bill runs this team are two different things. Bill is not desperate and he will not act desperatly. He will let the cards fall where they may and do what he can to direct them. He will not overpay or hurt his team in the long haul to go up in the draft with a king's ransom. I am just stunned at how people who call themselves Pats fans can't get that by now. Its been a freaking 20 years and you still just don't get it.

Being responsible, even frugal with resources is a sound policy until that frugality prices you out of the market for something you need.
Riding a bicycle can save you a lot of money on a car but in you live in the northeast and work 40 miles from your home you will need to pay the going rate for a car to get to work.
It’s been 20 years of not needing a QBs.
Of course we didn’t pay the cost of a qb when we didn’t need one. Every decision is based upon the circumstance. Look at this years free agency. Of course he was going to do what he did. All those people who kept telling me look at the history were wrong because they, like you, don’t understand the context of the history.

Does anybody listens to Patriots Global on youtube? I listened to one of his videos today where he spoke about rumours that the pats have reached out to bengals or falcons for a possible trade. He is refering to Jeff Howe. Did anybody heard that rumour or can say if that is reliable?

I suspect @ChrisR2223 started those rumors. I'd bet on it.
