I suppose the implication is that JG is a bad QB, so why are the 49ers asking for a first? The reverse is if JG is a bad QB why are you trying to trade for him?

First in with "this makes Jimmy more tradeable"...

It is interesting they are bringing in more QBs. They also have Rosen signed. And apparently looked into trading for Darnold before.

Will they carry 4 QBs? The signs to me point to Jimmy eventually being traded. Maybe I'm wrong.

The 49ers suck at poker. They are moving Jimmy. Case closed.

....and the Darnold trade does not help their case for asking for a 1st rounder at all and nor will it be helped when Bridgewater is traded for a 3rd or 4th rounder.

BB waiting in the weeds....

Sudfeld is a jag brought in to compete for the 3rd spot on the depth chart. I’d assume only the QB they take at 3rd overall is secure. Entire situation is fluid otherwise. Could mean they want Rosen and Sudfeld to battle for that last spot. Could mean they’re getting rid of Garoppolo and see Rosen as the bridge or the immediate backup. Could mean a number of things. If they went and traded for a guy like Bridgewater or signed Alex Smith off the street, either of which would be an obvious replacement for Garoppolo in the veteran/bridge role, then I could see looking deeper into it. But I’m not sure the Sudfeld signing means anything more than a camp body at this juncture.

My prediction, on draft day the Pats will get JG for at most a 3rd and next year's 5th

I don’t think Jimmy is coming to New England unless BB thinks he can stay healthy and is our best chance to win.
If he thinks he makes us better the next 2 seasons than Cam, Jarrett, Lance, Fields, Mond, Jones, Costello he will be here. I just pray we don’t overpay.
I’m thinking a third and fifth next season. Or Gilly straight up.

I was on the train that the niners were moving JG this year as well, but I am not sure now. Most QB's drafted are not ready to go out and do much. It would be better for the niners to hang onto him another year and let the rookie learn before cutting loose. The niners are not some 2-14 team, so they are still in win now mode, dropping in a rookie and you have zero behind him is not a great plan going into a season.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner!

Wait for the 49ers to cut him, if they don’t or won’t trade him for peanuts and he’ll agree to rework his deal then leave it alone.

Draft someone... this isn’t hard.

Are you agreeing with me or trying to show me something? I just said that I am not really on board that the niners will let JG walk because they are bringing in a rookie.

Personally, I'd like to see them trade for Jimmy and also draft Kellen Mond and let him sit for a couple of years at least. See where you're at then - if Jimmy's injuries are still an issue, you can move on from him. If he stops getting hurt as much and plays up to his potential, he's your guy for another 5+ years after that.

I was playing off of your post, and adding a bit to it. No rookie QB has ever started a Super Bowl. The 49ers obviously have SB aspirations in 2021. So it would be a particularly bold move to decide to ditch a QB who started a SB for them just 2 years ago, in order to put a rookie at the helm.

Gotcha, yeah and that is what gave me pause thinking that trading up to get a QB meant JG was gone. In this instance, I think what the niners said about JG was actually truth and not just trying to get a higher pick.

When do you want the Patriots to be competitive again....,2025? SF is not just releasing Garappolo this season. They’ve postured way too much to ever be able to spin away just releasing him to their fan base.

No rookie QB has ever started a Super Bowl, that is true. But there were a few that came awfully close to pulling it off (Mark Sanchez, Joe Flacco, and Ben Roethlisberger).*

*Technically speaking, also Dieter Brock for the Rams in the 1985 season even though he was a 34-year-old NFL rookie with previous pro experience in the CFL.

But it’ll happen eventually, and boy would it drive everyone off the wall if the Pats were the first to do it.

I'm a big fan of picking QBs till you get one that sticks.

The Seahawks had that whole bake-off with Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Flynn and Russel Wilson.

Worked out fine for them, I'd say.

The thing is, I don't think BB is going to play it that way, although I'd love to be wrong on that.

He seems to be so value driven he seems to view that as wasteful and would rather use the capital on filling in minor holes elsewhere on the roster.

I don't see him spending vast amounts of draft capital on moving up, and it seems too late to do that anyway.

I don't see him spending anything more than a next year's 2nd round pick to get JG this season, and it seems SF is OK with keeping JG unless someone overpays, and it won't be BB.

I don't think a worthy QB will drop to us in the 1st, I think if we get a QB it'll have to be via a 2nd or 3rd round pick, and we'll need to get lucky on whomever we get.

See, I can be critical of BB...

Correct. Russell Wilson was a 3rd round pick. Flynn was a fairly expensive FA signing. Pom-Pom clearly made the right decision.

At the end of the day fans either trust BB to choose quarterbacks accordingly based on talent, upside and system fit or they don't.
