Danny's a bit player, unless Edelman gets hurt. Lewis was, by far, the team's best RB, and the starter. Butler was, without question, one of the team's best 2 CBs.

Butler and Lewis are quality players, and nobody here should be surprised that they are getting paid accordingly. Let's not have the usual nonsensical bashing of the departed, this year.

But is beating the holiday rush and having the usual early panic still acceptable?

I agree that butler was one of our 2 best corners. He was clearly #2 behind Gilmore. I just don’t think we will see a drastic drop off in corner play without him. You just don’t drop 60 mil for butler when your already paying the better corner in Gilmore the same amount. We knew butler was a goner the moment gilmore signed. The super bowl reaffirmed it.

As for Dion, your really going to trust spending the money Tennessee just did on him? He’s a good player for sure. He’s not an elite rb. Here’s 2 mid round rbs from last year..Kareem hunt and Alvin kamara. What do they have in common? They’re both better than Dion Lewis. It’s not impossible to not only replace these two players in the draft but to actually get better. Not saying it will happen but it’s possible.

I think this would be a good start (I use the word ban in place of the notion of all of us berating offenders to the point where they cry and go away, which would actually be my preference):

1. Ban panic posting during the first 3 days of free agency, the first 2 offseason injury reports (with the requisite Brady exception, of course) and the first half of week one's game thread.
2. Ban talking about every signing as if the player is a guaranteed All-Pro.
3. Ban nonsensical bashing of departing players during the FA season and post-draft cuts.

I think you forgot to take off your extra-strength homer goggles. Any player can be replaced, to a point, and being tight to the cap made personnel losses inevitable, but the Patriots are much weaker today than they were before they lost those players, and Lewis' money wasn't a bank breaker.

Yup, Danny was a luxury to have, a solid clutch replacement for great clutch slot receiver. Not many teams have that. It's sad to see him go because of all the great memories he gave us, but it's a business.
