Getting rid of highly drafted players after they play terribly under one year of terrible coaching is NOT a winning strategy in the NFL. Sure, we drafted him too early. And because he failed as a rookie he should be cut??? IMO, McConkey would probably have failed also. Of course, DeJean wouldn't have, but that is another story.
=======
If that's Vrabel's decision, I'm fine and I suspect that Polk is fine also. He'll move on to one of the many teams that considered him a 3rd round talent last year and want a very inexpensive #5 WR.
Coming off of back to back 4-13 seasons, outside of a handful of players, no one's job should be safe because of draft status, because they are a vet, because of their contract, etc...

polk is not one of the handful of players at this point...

I am just saying it's human psychology. Not everyone will become millionaires and not everyone will slack. But the potential arises.

As for Nvidia the employees deserve it , but it did also impact Nvidia productivity . There are articles around it . Employees stopped caring after financial goals are met. Sometimes people work just to put food on table . When more of that is net, they diverge into other interests like hobbies and traveling..

Request you to develop better reading skills and not go on offense or insinuating people. I just made a view point without berating Polk. He played hard in college and got a good contract. Good for him. His first year was not mentally good for him and could have broken him and the guaranteed contract might make him want to leave an unhappy space .

As for Nvidia article here it goes

fair enough

Someone will give Polk a chance for a future in the NFL, even if we won't. He won't be the first young player we've cut that plays in the NFL for a few years.

As fans, along with the team, we see someone drafted or signed who aren't the stars we expect. And because they aren't star material or oven significant backups, we dump them. It happens all the time. And many fans APPLAUD this huge wasted of talent. We need #4 and #5 receivers. We need backup LB's.
=====
As many of us agree, being cut will be OK for Polk. Another team will give a chance at a future, even if we don't.
============
BTW, THANK YOU for the article on Nvidia. I expect that many of these "semi-retirements" will be made permanent. The company will continue being the top AI company in the world.

Suggestion: swap our miserable failure at WR from last year’s draft with the Jets’. Give ‘em Polk for Malachi Corley.

A change of scenery could be good.

Isn't he mostly a Slot guy?

Polk practiced today and caught a TD from Maye. Not sure how he actually practiced, but it seems to be a decent start to his return. Still a long way away from guaranteeing him a roster spot in a month.

Looked like an easy TD (coverage sucked), but I liked the hands (or hand on this one). Maybe he cured the dropsies from last year.

I don't think that Polk head is not in it, not really sure why people have come to that conclusion (please splain). He was horrible last year, but I put a lot of his confusion on the coaches, but ultimately you have to play the cards you're dealt and he did not.

I am probably in the minority but I don't think he is horrible, but I don't think he is good enough at anything to beat out Diggs, Pop, Williams, Booty (maybe he is our 5th in a Jakobi Meyers kind of slot) but honestly I would lean toward someone like Chism due to his quicks and shiftiness.

If we cut him someone will pick him up on waivers

Baker still doesn’t know the playbook like he should.

On the other hand he rolls a tight doobie. So he’s got that going for him.

...which is, like, nice, man...

Looking like an all time bad draft pick. Absolutely brutal. Never been a fan since he ran his mouth and not at all surprised with his career trajectory. Thanks, Elliot.

He is done here .

Diggs, Pop, Boutte, williams , hollins . Hollins will make the team just because of his height . Look at what Johnny Wilson of eagles did yesterday m. Unbelievable catch radius.

Baker , Chism and Jiles for the last 1 or 2 spots

I hate these kinds of threads where people originally pound their chests and pontificate that THEY were right and the professionals were wrong and then pat themselves on the back.

There was never ANYTHING wrong with the pick WHEN it was made. You may have wanted this guy or that guy better, BUT Polk was right there among the guys who went in that range. And All the WR heroes were happy we go a guy in the 2nd and NOTHING that occurred from April until September to change that feeling.

But now after being injured we are piling on again. Listen, as has been mentioned in this thread, NO ONE looked more pathetic as an effective WR for 3 years than Thornton. He really did nothing that stood out on the field, INCLUDING looking fast. And now 3 years later, in another system, he is "opening eyes".

I keep carping on the FACT there is a lot of factors that go into a players success OTHER than his own individual talent. Coaching, systems, talent around him, changes in attitude, mind set, confidence, training... on and on it goes.

You may make the case that Polk doesn't have a future HERE, but we continue to take amazingly short-term evidence to make long term determinations far too often to label players. I want us to be smarter than that.

I don't think that we have the information to make even a reasonable choice.
==========
CHOOSE ZERO TO TWO
1) Staff has to decide whether it worth a roster spot to try to develop Polk.

2) Staff has to decide whether it worth a roster spot to try to develop Chism.

3) Staff has to decide whether it is worth a roster spot to try to develop Baker.
==================
BTW, if kept, I think that Baker would be the only one l=who would be active for Game One. But that may or may not be the deciding factor.
======
JUST FOR GIGGLES
I think that Polk is far more likely to be picked up by another team than either of the others. MANY had him as 2nd or 3rd or even a 4th round talent and ONE may be willing to give him a chance, understanding that the patriots coaches failed to develop him in his rookie year.

A lot of sunk cost fallacy going on here. You picked a guy high and paid him a bunch, but he's getting outplayed by lower picked players who aren't getting paid as much. Oh well. You keep the guys that are ALREADY making plays. That's why we kept guys like Edelman...some dude named Brady....

Draft position and investment matter some, but OVERVALUING that investment can kill your team. Look at what KW is doing as a 3rd rounder. Dude already looks more like a player than Polk.

There was never ANYTHING wrong with the pick WHEN it was made
That’s just not true. Even a casual college fan like me heard plenty of negatives about him when the pick was made, and strong opinions it was a ****ty pick, and it looks all the world right now like it was a ****ty pick. It’s kind of weird not to acknowledge that to be honest
